Did anyone listen to Mike and Mike today? I caught it late, but he mentioned they had been discussing the game last night and possible suspensions. If anyone tuned in, please recap. TIA
I watched a little before coming to work. They played a statement from Stu Jackson saying he would look at Kobe's elbow to see if it was intentional. Expect Fisher to get suspended for one game. Golic was seeming like he was leaning toward Kobe getting suspended. They read the official rule stating an elbow above the shoulders is an automatic suspension. Its rule 12 something.
let's get real. they will NOT suspend kobe. they can't. he is their marquee player for the best series in the 2nd round. kobe's back was turned to ron, and there was shoving and pushing to get body position. kobe never looked to see where ron was when he threw the elbow. they will let him off with no repercussions. just to appease the masses though, they will probably suspend fisher for a game and let kobe play. fish's play on its own deserved the suspension IMO, but they will definitely suspend him if they're not going to do anything to kobe.
The videos show plane and simply intentions. The NBA just needs to follow through. If they don't their integrity and credibility diminishes.
Make no mistake about it, Bryant knew exactly where he was throwing that elbow. Its dirty, but the elbow to Battier was much more blatant. Fisher should be suspended for the entire series.
Uh, if the NBA fails to suspend or even discipline Rajon Rondo, not once but TWICE for dirty plays in the Bulls series, why would anyone think they are going to suspend Kobe for Game 3? He is one of the marquee players in the league and plays for one of the league's golden children franchises in the Lakers (the Celtics, of course, are the other and that was why Rondo was spared any discipline for his shenanigans).
I personally don't think they should suspend Kobe, nor do I think they will, but according to the letter of the law, they should. Its like Amare leaving the bench a couple of years but coming right back before he got anywhere near anything and still getting suspended. I know Karl Malone has been suspended for his out of control elbows.
I'll be SHOCKED if they suspend Kobe. I think it's highly, highly doubtful, no matter what the rule book says. It's the NBA.
If Kobe didn't get suspended or even fined for the elbows and knees to shanes body in game one, then he definitely wont hear too much about this elbow.
Balls? Well if that takes balls, then thank god he doesnt have any. We dont need to be the whiners of the league. Im sure that they will make a case as stated above, but we dont need to use the Cuban tactics!
After Monday's loss, Kobe and D-Fish took it up themselves to show toughness. We saw what happened last night. The ball is in our court now. Playoff basketball is NFL without helmets. I expect our guys to come out hitting. Hopefully someone would land an inadvertent elbow to Kobe's nose the same way Kobe put his into Ron's throat. I am loving my Rockets all bloodied up. It's the only way to win a championship.
They had Lawrence Frank(NJ Nets Coach) on there also. They asked him and he said that Kobe should not be suspended. In the end they all agreed that Kobe should be fined but not suspended. But the rule clearly states no elbow above the shoulders. And how can you say an elbow deserves a fine but not a suspention. There are two different types of elbows that are used. The first is the one when you clear space by bringing your elbow straight up from your side to the shoulder as on a rebound "ala Motumbo". Then there is the swinging elbow in which the arm goes in one direction then back the other, and in that case that is deliberate. If you look at the Kobe elbow, he pulls his arm slightly forward then swings it back so in that case he should be suspended, but it won't happen. Then on ESPN First Take, Skip says that Kobe and Fisher hits were worse than Rafer's head slap but said that he should be suspended but not Kobe or Fisher. What I am hearing is that Kobe play was dirty but everyone is taking up for him, which leads me to believe that the media and probably the league will say and do whatever it takes to make sure the Lakers are in the Finals.
No it's not. We are not allowed to get away with what players like Kobe and Rondo can, because they are draws for teams that are in huge markets. The Rockets are not even the most popular team in Texas, unfortunately. They are not even the most popular team in the city.
So? You think the Rockets are scared of Kobe and the Lakers in Houston? We have already beaten them once in this series with him out there and on his home court.
