Anybody want to adopt a Cat or Kitten from the Museum of Natural Science?

Update on Cats and Kittens. With the help of 2 awesome volunteers FCAP (Feral Cat Assistance Program), and Tania T. in Visitor Services who put us in touch with FACP, we humanely captured 4 kittens and two adult cats last night (the Mother cat and presumably the father). Mother and father and one kitten are at SNAP now getting spayed and neutered, and a rabies shot. These services are without charge because it is funded by a grant. They are all nice cats and would make someone a wonderful pet.

If we don’t get people to foster or adopt them our choices are limited to:

1. Release them back on Museum Property.
2. Take them to an animal shelter where they will likely be euthanized, particularly the kittens, because they are too wild and are not used to humans.

Also, there is another group of Mother cats and 4 kittens by the Planetarium. The kittens are not old enough to be weaned. Their options are a little better for adoption if we get them around humans before they too wild, otherwise see the scenario below.

Please pass the word along to anyone who might want a cat. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Dear friends of felines,

We have two colonies of homeless cats at the Museum and have made progress in controlling the population through spay/neutering. But we still need homes for them and/or foster homes through the CAP (Citizens for Animal Protection) program. See attached pictures. They are really adorable.

Colony #1 – Cockrell Butterfly Center Garden: Mother, Daddy and 5 kittens. The Mother, Daddy and 4 of the kittens have been spayed/neutered with assistance from the FCAP program at CAP – see link below and SNAP. They have also received a rabies shot. Mom and Dad are people friendly and litter-box trained. Dad (a grey tabby) does not hang out with the family and has not been seen since Sunday 6/7, but is real laid back and a sweetie. The kittens are all weaned and are slowing getting used to humans.

Colony #2 – Burke Baker Planetarium Colony. Mother and 4 kittens (about 3 weeks old) – 3 yellow kittens and 1 gray striped. Mother is very people friendly and babies are still approachable, if Mother lets you. In the next 2 weeks or so the kittens could be weaned and are ready for homes or foster homes. Mother would make a lovely pet for someone as well.
