Not talking about them having a crappy season in that sense.

I'm just talking about the fact that the last two seasons and the miraculous comebacks were so darned magical emotionally - it's almost too much to think that something like that can be repeated. I mean, I still can't believe they came back and made the playoffs after being totally out of it - TWO YEARS AGO. And then last year - just....WOW. I mean I was out of the country and misssed most of the games but still couldn't believe it. Just incredible.

how do you top that? Baseball is too unfair and fickle to allow justice to be done and give them a WS title, so I have my emotional defenses up for fear of getting traumatized. Oh, and I sound like a girl.

I always fear the worst so I can be pleasantly surprised.

Anything short of a 7 game showdown (or a faster beatdown of them) with the Cards in the NLCS will be disappointing. So no, I'm not scared

I think that if they don't somehow, someway find some players that can generate some offense for this team, it's going to be a long, disappointing season, and this time the pitching won't be there to save them like it was the past two seasons.

Oh, and Clemens won't be back if the offense is not significantly improved, mark my words.

honestly, i think we will be an avg team...i think ensberg was a fluke, he won't hit as many HR's...soph slump is looking for willy t and burke....and our pitching staff is kinda weak i think....hopefully tbuc can solidify the #5 spot.....and another thing, the astros need to learn how to "walk" more....they strikeout too much....shiet, they need to learn how to make more "contact" ....especially in critical situations....

I don't know--a four or five game beat-down of the Phillies or the Mets seems pretty darned attractive to me! Imagine RoyO, the ghost of Mike Scott, handing the Mets their collective asses in Games 1 and 5!! SWEET!!!!

I don't think I'll be disappointed - last year was the definition of overachieving, and this year's crop doesn't look any better on paper. We now have a better handle on the young guys and their limits (Burke isn't a Killer B, Taveras isn't much at the plate, Scott still isn't really ready, Lane is okay).

In short, we've got very strong pitching with pathetic run support. We badly need a good percentage guy, and unless we get him, I don't have much hope in a return trip. Maybe we make a midseason deal, but Purpura's shown me squat so far.

I set the bar low enough so I wont be disappointed if we suck badly. I see the past 2 years as magical and once in a lifetime, I wont allow myself to be spoiled by it :D . In other words, expect the worst, pray for the best.

It's so damn hard to make it to the postseason in baseball. And the Astros have done it the impossible way 2 consective years. If they don't make it or come up short in October, I won't be too dissapointed. I believe they can but you never know what will happen over a 162 game season, so I just wanna try and enjoy the ride.

Precisely. And on different levels, fans in NY, Boston, Atlanta, and Houston are spoiled rotten--on different levels.

Think about it--if you are a fan of any of 26 *other* teams, the playoffs are a once-in-a-decade pipe dream. For Astros fans, it's been 6 times in a decade, and once to the Series.

If they get back yet again, we are some blessed baseball fans.

Now, here's hoping they win it all.
