Anybody remember that kid in middle or elementary school that stunk?

I certainly do. Heck in my elementary school, there was one of these at every grade level.

why did I start this thread? well, when it rained at UT today, the whole air had a foul smell in my opinion and then, suddenly I thought about elementary students that stunk up the classroom. An odd transition I know.

anyway, I remeber this one kid in 6th grade. And I sat next to him one day, and the smell that resignated from him was so bad, that my stomach started acting up. The guy literally smelled like poo.

And then you have these elementary students that either dont take a shower for a week striaght, and don't realize they smell, but even worse, you have these kids that DO TAKE SHOWERS, but smell bad anyway because inside of the house they live in is in terrible shape.

I used to live by this one kid when I was 11, and I went to his house only one time. As soon as I entered through the front door, the smell was downright repulsive. I'd been better off in a gas chamber. Ok maybe not.

Finally, I'll end with this. In second grade, as my class was coming in from recess, the class was sitting indian style in a line to go to the bathroom before the classes resumed. As most of the students were waiting in line, one boy stood up and showed the teacher a piece of mud that he curled into a ball that was the size of a Jack in the box attenna ball. As he showed the teacher this in from of all these students, the smell of feces started making its presence. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, he was playing with dog poo and must have thought the texture felt good. The teacher was baffled to say the least.

It's amazing how many kids smell bad and don't know it, and I blame the parents. Forget teaching them about how they should eat at the table, or reminding them to say thanks or that type of thing , teach them how to take a fricken shower. Teach them how valuable a bar of soap can be. Now that is raising a kid.

DD and Codell, don't let your kids be "that kid."

It's ok. The important thing is you don't stink now. Those nightmares will go away - one day.

LMAO. I knew like 4 guys like that. They always smelled weird, but after going over to their house, I understood why...they smelled like their houses.

I have a friend who teaches sixth grade, and sometimes she and her fellow teachers call these kids "the stinkers" -- not for their behavior but because so many of them smell.

She claims that kids go through all these intense chemical changes right before they become teens, and the smell is in part all about these chemicals. I dunno.

I remember a kid on the bus who smelled so strongly of dead shrimp that we would hold our heads out the windows. Nice kid too, but he worked a shrimp boat early every morning with his dad before going to school.

    MoBalls,

these kids I'm referring are not the ones that smell because they were sweating. Heck, there were probably a few occasions after recess when everyone would smell like sweat because they would do alot of running playing a football game or playing duck duck goose. I don't think you are "that kid."

I'm refering to the kids that in some cases, literally smell like ****, and in other cases, bring that odd smell that generates from their home into the classroom.

Oh yeah I know man....I was kidding around...I also knew a couple of them kids. I remember once I went to one their homes and it was filthy......The mom was a smoker and the house was a mess....The father was locked up in jail or something......I felt sorry for this kid....he smelled bad and was always dirty......but still remained friendly to him until they moved....hey JBII, I hope you are doing well in school......

The kid that stunk in my middle school was stinky because his family was so poor, they bathed in the canal behind their house.

I remember the person that got his name for Christmas gift exchange gave him a few bars of soap!

Even worse that same kid that stunk so bad, hung himself in Jr. High because of his families terrible poverty and his sad life.

    True story.:(

Your thread title reminded me of a kid I met just prior to 5th grade in 1964.

We had just moved into a new neighborhood. My brother and I were just hanging around with some of the neighborhood kids.

Up rode this kid on a bike. Several of the kids started chanting, "Here comes Odor!" Turns out that "Odor" was an avid fisherman so he always had the odor of worms and fish on his hands.

Cut to 1978, I'm a first year high school teacher. Come late Fall, every morning there is a strong, strong odor of something that smells like bacon grease. I am totally baffled by this phenomenon until someone explains that this family heats their home with wood.

reminds me of my fifth grade teacher, mrs cummings. she taught every single one of her students the value of wearing DEODERANT.

on a similar note, i am a coordinator at an after school program in Manhattan, one of the girls name is Ildico, emphasis on the "Ill".

we call her "Smelldico". god thats terrible i just said that. oh well the girl has stunk since she was in 8, she is in fifth grade now and she better learn quick about hygiene or she is in for a rough adolescence.

I always felt bad because the smelly people were always some of the nicest people. I didn't want to be mean or anything, so I just left it alone and breathed through my mouth.

I don't really remember any STINKY kids, but I remember this one kid who wore boots and always seemed to get mud into the classroom. The teacher always made him clean it up. I didn't how he did it, especially on the driest days, but he did it. You could always count on him.

Hey it doesn't stop in middle school. There is a guy in the office where I work that stinks. But he only stinks every few days. I think his showing is not a daily ritual.

He's foreign (from India), so maybe he was raised that way, I don't know...

What does that have anything to do with being an Indian? I'm from India and I shower pretty much everyday. Sometimes twice a day.

I've seen plenty of white people, black people, Mexicans, Indians, Chinese, etc that stink. I dont think it has anything to do with where you are from. Some people are just stinky damnit!

I guess he meant that most places in India stinks, and that's partly true, if you ever actually been to India, then you know what I'm talking about.

Even the roads in their capital are filled with cow poos, and the bath water in their hotel are yellow-colored. That country really is a nightmare for squeamish.

No, I hear ya. There's stinky people all over the earth. My point is not that since he is from India, he stinks. It's more that since he's foreign, perhaps he wasn't raised in the "shower and use deodorant" environment that many of us were raised in here in the US.
