These were in today's online version of the Chronicle:

    Aug. 31, 2002, 10:02PM

    American League notes

Baltimore Orioles -- Doug Johns' eight-inning effort Saturday was his longest outing since July 14, 1996, when he was with Oakland.

Cleveland Indians -- Manny Ramirez, leading the majors with 144 RBIs, was forced to leave in the first inning of Saturday's game after being hit in the right knee by a pitch from Chicago's Jim Parque. Ramirez sustained a bruise, and his status is day-to-day.

Minnesota Twins -- Because of the 11 a.m. start Saturday, the Twins offered fans who wore pajamas to the game a discount on their tickets, but very few seemed to take advantage of the offer.

New York Yankees -- Darryl Strawberry went 2-for-3 with two walks Saturday and has reached base safely 19 times in 27 plate appearances this season. ... Before Saturday, reliever Mariano Rivera had gone 81 appearances since July 9, 1998, without walking his first batter before walking Boston's Mike Stanley in the ninth.

Seattle Mariners -- Ken Griffey Jr. was scratched from the starting lineup Saturday with a sore elbow, then reinstated 20 minutes before game time.

I noticed the date was wrong:

    August 31st.

Isn't it supposed to be September 1st?

Well, it was the online version...so for the Sept. 1 print issues, an Aug. 31st posting late at night would be appropriate.

Umm...Behad posted at 7:02 pm Sept. 1st. Does the Chronicle not update their website? It wouldn't suprise me if they didn't.

Probably not...some newspapers seem to, while others don't. Considering the major gaffes already in the article, what's another date change? ;)

The chronicle only updates late, after 10:30pm or so, so the date is correct....
