When I was checking the NBA.com TV schedule I noticed that the Rockets are 7-0 when Anderson leads them in scoring.
good stat...I especially like the fact you didn't make any non-sequitors. How about this one: what is our record when Carlos, Barkley, Dream and Cato combine to score less than a dozen points: 7-2
Her's one. i predict the Rocks will win the championship, they start off the season 24-35. Ugh. Um next year the rockets will tank the season. That follows - doesn't it?
i just read a crazy stat that said throughout the history of the organization... before Dream, before RudyT, even back in San Diego... the Rockets won every game in which they scored more than their opponent.
Man Achebe, why you got to go and ruin everything? Dont you know correlations, even strong ones, mean squat? Like, YEAH!
Yes, yes, very clever. I chose not to make any correlations in the first post, hoping to get some speculation that would be somehow related to the Rockets, or Anderson, or something interesting. I guess I'll have to start. Given the above 7-0 stat, do you suppose that the kind of offense that lets Anderson score the lions share while Stevie concentrates on the PG role is the ideal way this offense should work?
Mark VH: sorry, I haven't slept since friday. (my mommy doesn't let me eat chocolate) I was actually wondering about that same issue back when Steve rolled his ankle (back in Nov.?Dec.?) and Shandon scored 27+ two games in a row... although I haven't reapproached it to consider whether or not it was coincidence (7-0 isn't a coincidence) or if it has more to do w/ Shandon's comfort zone w/ lanes vs. Stevie, etc. Do you have a list of these games/ Shandon's defenders, etc.? I imagine HeyPartner will be in shortly with an eloquent, coherent synopsis... and here.................'s partner:
According to the page where I stumbled across this: 10/29/99 - 18 points vs. Spurs 12/02/99 - 27 points vs. Clips 12/04/99 - 26 points vs. Suns 01/20/00 - 26 points vs. Nuggets 02/03/00 - 32 points vs. Sixers 02/08/00 - 23 points vs. Cavs 02/15/00 - 25 points vs. Pistons I don't know who was defending.
The only logical conclusion is that none of the Rockets should shoot the ball anymore. Letting Anderson take all of the shots should lead to an undefeated record and a sweep through the playoffs.
Yeah, I guess that was the only conclusion that was possible. Oh, well. At least I can comfort myself with the fact that my very first post on this board broke the ten-reply barrier. Maybe I could get twenty by posting ground breaking and thoughtful topics like "What's the deal with Hakeem", or "We should draft somebody good". Sheesh.
sorry that we're all cynics lately Mark VH... there's no real excuse (other than we're all stir crazy after 4 1/2 months of watching a doomed season for the Rockets)
Mark VH, if you want a better response, you really need to add 7 exclamation points to your title. The ellipses just don't leaving us "wanting" like you think they might. cheers
Mark VH, Don't get frustrated, threads seldom go in the realm of discussion you want them to go in, but that is part of the fun of open speech because that is precisely what creates the GREAT threads. And about that stat ... (that's for u heypard!!!!) I think its more of a reflection of Anderson's play than of the Rocks. Anderson doesn't usually take that many shots, cuz he doesn't want to force it, cuz he knows Francis and mobley are better at creating. But when Anderson is hot, he is gonna light - it - up. Maybe if Anderson was in the zone more we should run more plays thru him, but he's not. And one of the great thing about Anderson is that he doesn't need plays to be run for him. I would love to see Anderson and Francis post up more though.
It could be that the relationship between Anderson's scoring and the Ws actually goes the other way. Maybe in those games the team as a whole is playing unusually well, and that either gives Anderson the confidence/agression to take more shots or opens the defense enough to allow him to do it. Thus, good team play results in wins and points for Anderson instead of points from Anderson results in team wins. I suppose there are things you could do to check: you can see how well the team as a whole shot, how many assists we had, etc. But I don't want to try.
Yeah Juan, that was my initial impression. Not that Anderson was the sole reason they won, but that something dynamic was happening with the team-play (vs. the all Mobe/Francis show) that resulted in wins.
Achebe I've been looking for a stats database like that, but haven't been able to find one. I started to create an Access database for it, but found I wouldn't have time to maintain it. Since then I scrapped it. ------------------ <this space for rent>
