Hakeem signed on with Etonic, Spalding, and maybe other crappy shoes because he thought the prices of basketball shoes were getting too high. This was back when Jordan's were really taking off at $110. He said he wanted any kid who wanted his shoes to be able to afford them. Unfortunately, he probably got quite a few kids beaten up.
