    Congrats...

On a side note, how do you like Jonesboro? I've been there once. The whole "buying a membership to go to a bar" thing was weird. I think I still have one to some bar in a Holiday Inn.

Don't graduate! Go back! Stay another year!

I was so ready to get out of college. Five years later, I wish I could go back.

Jonesboro is a nice place to raise a family but the politics of the city and county are dominated by churches. They don't call this "The City of Churches" for nothing. Recently they made a new law that any place that serves alcohol must close by 2:00 AM and tax each drink served by that establishment 3%. Like you said, if you want to go into any establishment that does serve liquor you must buy a membership which costs anywhere from $5-$40. If you are a young person wanting to party and experience the nightlife this is definitely not the place for you.

The bar you went to is called "The Mallard" and we used to hit it up every Wednesday for karaoke but they even ended that for some reason. Why and when were you in Jonesboro? Did you like it?

how late could they serve before this law. in texas drinks stop flowing at 2am, but you don't have to close

For my previous job, I was supervising the delivery of equipment to a Sonic in Pocahontas. Jonesboro was the closest airport (though it probably would have been smarter and cheaper to fly to Memphis). I think I was in there during karaoke night. This was probably 5 years ago.

They could keep serving until 3 or 4 in the morning. Now they just shut everything down at 2.

well that was more liberal than houston. also in houston liquor stores are closed on sunday. and no hard liquor is sold outside of a liquor store.

there's an old thread you look up called blue laws, which is what they call this morality legislation. I don't know if they refer to them as blue laws in other places

Well this county is dry so clubs, restaurants, and other entities must have special "private club" status in order to get liquor licenses through the state Alcoholic Beverage Commission. There are no stores that sell beer or liquor at all.

We have the blue laws here in Arkansas too but everybody just heads to Missouri, which is about 40 minutes from my city.

I am completely with you on this as long as my expenses are not coming out of my own pocket. I miss the parties, the girls, the sports, the decent library and its resources, and interacting with professors. The only thing you gotta do is bust your ass a few times a semester and study.
