I say Swift plays good in the next few games. He hasnt lived up to expectations as yet but I just have a feeling he is going to ball it up in the next few games.
I hope he does well so we can trade him. I don't think he is a bad player but he is on a bad scheme for him. I like I said many times he needs to go to a team that is a running team (NJ, Phoenix, Golden State).
I still have hope for Swift to turn things around. I havent given up on him. I know his confidence is shaken but hopefully things look up and he turns the corner.
If you're a Rockets fan, then you want all of our players to succeed. As long as Swift is a Rocket, we have to pull for him. And really, all it would take for him to capture the fans' hearts is a little smart play, less fumbling around, and some genuine hustle.
I think JVG is affected by benching the previous two games before the inactive list.JVG is willing to give him a chance and he wants to trust him.I hope JVG won't get moody again and be impatient by his emotions.don't trade swift i see a breakout coming!
i would rather trade jvg. besides tmac, swift is the only player that can do anything exciting anymore.
he better go all out the rest of the season, to say he's been a huge disapointment would be an understatement.
if ever we trade swift,we will be getting an older player again.there's still tym we don't have to rush things.there is still next season's draft which has good guards.
Swift was playing well before he got the pinkeye. It is tough to argue that he needs to start b/c J. Howard is playing so well and Hayes has been great but maybe as a starter he can get into some kind of groove and boost his confidence but then you risk alienating Howard and Hayes. It's tough but I think it is too soon to give up on him and I wish people would quit hating on him, especially Matt Jackson and J. Grenato.
Of course. Swift has the potential to move ahead of Mutumbo in the rotation. What I mean is the Rockets have the potential to be more dangerous with Swift than they do with Mutumbo, expecially against a quicker team like the Mavs and Suns who the Rockets would face in the playoffs if they make it. By the looks of things Mutumbo is not the same player he was for us last year so Swift having the ability to play back-up center becomes more valuable to this team than he otherwise would be.
No way I've given up on Stro. Clearly he is not a quick study . That being said, JVG's system may not be for everyone. Before he was quarantined with pre-terminal pinkeye, he was actually coming around.....just a glimpse of what he can bring. And JVG was finally getting him the ball in spots where he can attack the basket with either hand. He also showed that he is a pretty good interior passer. Another point is that he's probably a more effective backup center than Deke in most matchups. Too soon to jettison him now, although I'm not sure he's got more than 2-3 more weeks to prove himself. I still think he has a cool name. But seriously, he just has a really low basketball IQ. He has a poor sense for rebounding, he tries to turn every layup into a fancy slam, his post moves are epileptic, and his hands are terrible. It's obvious that he received poor coaching (if any) as a high school and college player. All that being said, he looks really good in transition. I can see why a running team like the Nets would want him. Or the Suns. If you put him out there with Alston, Barry, and McGrady, you would see him getting a lot of quick, easy buckets before the defense has had a chance to set. His shotblocking would also work great for a fastbreak team. But in a JVG, dump the ball to Yao first, offense, he looks lost. Unless you're up against Shaq, I would sub Stro for Yao. A lineup of Alston, Barry, McGrady, Hayes, and Swift would work reall well. You need quick players to keep up with Stro and smart players to create opportunities for him.
Just a quick reminder, Juwan Howard had 4 pts, and 4 rbs in 33 minutes last game against the Bucks. At some point JVG needs to give Stro a crack at the starting 4 spot and let's see what happens.
I have been a Swift fan all season, have posted in his defense several times, and remain one even now. I have had some disappointment with his performance, but I place some of the blame on JVG who is, without question, limited in his ability to develop and positively motivate his players. That is another issue. Having said that, I have to admit I would not be as against trading Swift as I once was, but would only want us to do it to obtain a truly better player, not in order to just get rid of Swift. I, too, think like Nero in his above post and would rather us give Swift a chance to shine consistently and establish his place of effectivenes with the Rockets so that he wins the fans and even the members of this site.
That's exactly the way I feel, but not only I want the Rockets to get a good player if they trade him...but I also want him to perform like he can with another team and get some playing time
Im still a Swift fan. I've said it once, but i'll say it again....he needs to play!! This 10 minutes BULL**** isn't gonna solve anything (if there is ANY doubt as to whether he belongs here, the only way to solve it is to play him). Just look what he does when he gets at least 25 minutes. He can be an asset for this team if given PT. I'd really like to see him being a more focal point of the offense. I think if JVG will run plays specifically for him he has the ability to creat for himself and others. Let him get the ball in the post, turn and face the bucket and go one-on-one......with Yao chillin on the backside block, his defender will have to help once Swift gets into the lane. SS is a good interior passer, and that would give him 2 options: dunk/lay-up, or dish to Yao for an easy bucket.
100% correct. But as for blaming Stro's problems on JVG, whatever. JVG has only coached the guy for 1/2 a season. Why did Stro disappoint in his first 5 full seasons? I'm sure it can be explained in such a way that none of it is Stro's fault. Yeah right. Stro has never reached his "potential" because none of his coaches understood how to use him. It has nothing to do with the fact he is a space cadet who doesn't hustle, has no rebounding instincts, very little touch around the basket, is a bad man on man defender, fouls way too much and knows less about NBA basketball than most rookies. If he had the perfect coach, the perfect PG and the perfect system to play in, he would be wonderful! So let's put him in a bubble and see what happens.
I totally agree with your assessment. And has anyone noticed how much better Stro plays when he gets a few touches. His effort and energy level increases a lot when he gets involved in the offense. With Yao back, we should really start exploiting the low post at every opportunity. Get it into Yao as the first option, but if he gets fronted, swing it around to Stro on the weak side and let him face up and attack the rim. Yao can then clean up the misses or dump offs. I haven't given up on Stro. I'd trade him for an upgrade at PF or SG, but I'm not prepared to throw him away like others on this board. Also, it seems like Juwan is much more hesitant to shoot when playing alongside Yao. And if he isn't making jumpers, then he's not giving us enough, so it's good to have some more options off the bench.
