I'm about to close on my new home! Very excited I've got the task of choosing utility providers, TV, internet, etc. Does anyone know of a site or source that allows you to view estimated rates for everything in a given area/zip code? For example, if I wanted to check to see if U-Verse was available in my new home's area and compare it to Comcast's rates. I tried U-Verse's site, but it seems like the site never recognizes the addresses I type in. Any help would be much appreciated. I'll be in the Richmond, TX area by the way
Uverse - You would have to call to see if it's available in your neighborhood yet, than you can go from there. Electricity- it's best to get rates online. Just go to the electricity providers site and you should be able to get rates. (Gexa, reliant, sparkenergy, etc)
I've called around already. I wanted to see how rates looked online. Thanks for contributing though. The only site I've heard of is whitefence.com Thanks, Bmw
I'm up for renewal myself. I'm looking at the Power To Choose site but I don't understand the implications. I've got about 30 choices from $.084 to $.139. Some are fixed and some are variable. I'd like to lock in on something for as long as possible with at least some renewable component; so it looks like Gexa at $.099, fixed and 4%. But why should I not go with Dynawatt (?) and their cheapest (but variable) rate. Does anybody understand this stuff? Abacus has 100% green at $.088!
Go with the fixed. Definitely. With the variable rate your bill could go up without any warning. The variable rate is based of of energy cost so it could go down but it might go up. Better to know what to expect rather than look at your bill one day and be PO'd.
Fixed for electricity. It always goes up in the summer, so it's best to lock it in for a good six months, right now. I use Startex power and go six months fixed in the summer (just re-upped), then three in the fall, then three more in the winter.
I just renewed with Star Tex Power. I got a 1-yr fixed rate of $.105/kwh for 100% renewable content. I was paying $.125/kwh and was only 3% renewable.
