unusually quiet. i haven't heard one comment form morey about how a workout went or his thoughts on any particular player. has anyone heard anything?
Get used to it. I don't think we're going to hear anything substantive out of the Rockets' camp. I mean, last year, how many people had any idea that Morey and the Rockets (a) had Aaron Brooks ranked as highly as they did and (b) had Carl Landry ranked ahead of guys like Nick Fazekas, Glen Davis and Josh McRoberts? Answer: None.
I read somewhere that the Rockets aren't releasing any of the names of the kids they are working out. The only rumors I have heard have come from player's representatives... and that was only one or two on Draftexpress (I think it was) Seems odd, but I guess there is a method to Morey's madness.
I forget where it was reported (draftexpress, maybe?), but Morey was sitting in on the workouts that the TWolves were conducting for their #3 and second round picks. And that McHale was also sitting in on some of our workouts for players expected to be available at our spot. Easy enough to see how the two former Celtics-organization guys would trust each other and maybe look at dealing with each other (see also, McHale and Ainge). Not to read too much into it. I think the idea would be for Morey to see players expected to go in the top 10 (maybe if the Rox move up somehow, or to see if it's worth moving up?) and for McHale maybe to trade up to #25 IF he thought it was worth it and Morey thought some good players would be available in the 2nd round. When I repeat stuff like this I hear Depeche Mode in my head: I don't want to start any blasphemous rumors/But I think that God's got a sick sense of humor/And when (the draft is over)/I expect to find him/Laughing....
Clutch answers the call for rockets draft info with an article today i'm sure it will get it's own thread but it relates to this one as well.
How many people, like myself, forget to check the start page of this site and have the BBS set as a favorite?
http://www.clutchfans.net/news/1472/draft_day_trade_could_be_rush_order/ kevin pritchard described rush as solid, a winner, reminds him of bruce bowen on defense. from what i've read it seems like westbrook will be a mid-lottery pick. maybe too far a reach for the rockets to trade up?
just a few days ago he was on espn and draftexpress mocks as going in the late lotto like 11 to indy or 12 to sacto. just recently his stock seems to have risen even higher. interesting to think that indy and sacto could be in the mix... they both would LOVE to get their hands on brooks. maybe we move brooks and our pick for #11 or 12? draft rush before prichard gets a chance at him.
If we move Brooks then we would absolutely have to draft a point like Westbrook. I hope this is all one big smokescreen; we don't need to be moving up in a deep draft like this. Deep as in 12 won't be much better than 25, not that 12 or 25 is any good to begin with.
good point, but for the time being we would have jackson as a backup and steve as 3rd string. i don't expect much from steve but i still think that would cover the PG duties. i disagree. its true that there is less need to move up in a deep draft, but when you are moving up 10 picks or more you will get a better player. the fact that its a deep draft is the very reason teams are willing to trade down if they can get a little extra compensation. i say its a good time to make a jump forward.
I just saw this on MSN (Fox Sports), and they have us taking a guy named Jason Thompson. He's a PF. I don't know alot about this guy, are they just picking someone who they think we need (because we have enough Pfs on the roster, now Scola, Landry, and Hayes). Or is he the best avaliable player, better than Chris Roberts Douglas or Brandon Rush. http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/8228534?MSNHPHCP>1=39002/
list of where prospects have gone for workouts out of everyone there... only two scrub second rounders are said to have worked out in houston so far. what happened to the giant workout we did earlier? this year's draft is so weird on the rockets front....
IF the info on Morey attending Minnesota workouts is correct (a lot of teams combine these draft workouts anyway), that MIGHT give you a possible list of Morey having evaluated K-Love, JaVale McGee, Koufos, Galinari, DeAndre Jordan, B. Lopez, Alexis Ajinca....and Brandon Rush. Of course, "if" is the longest two-letter word in the dictionary, and looking at those prospects, you see how Minnesota is looking for a center and may trade DOWN, while Morey, if he was actually present at the workouts, might target backup C's....and maybe Rush?....with the thought of moving UP.
I didn't see this posted: http://realgm.com/src_feature_artic... trade package (if he primarily plays the 1).
going after a backup center makes the most sense in the draft. FA centers are all overpriced. if you can get a guy like hibbert or lopez, or even speights for a rookie contract it's half of what you would pay on the open market.
we'll likely land some relatively unknown (euro?) guy who we will all complain about on the BBS for months and months, some even calling for DM's head. and then of course the Wizard and his pick will prove us all wrong in the new season.
Thompson is a mystery to me.... I haven't seen him play, just his highlight films, and they certainly look impressive. Then you look at his production over the course of the season, and he's put up 20/12 with almost 3 blocks. Sure, it's against "lesser competition" - but his games against the "big guns" were a step up from his normal production. The knocks on him are that he is a poor defender with questionable basketball IQ. I'd prefer us to go for CDR in the first round, but Thompson is intriguing early in the second, to say the least!
