We all know that the Rox are after Stoudamire. Do the Rox have any other alternative targets who can start to be our PG just in case we miss on getting him signed?
Well, I heard Stewart Little was available but he is coming of that almost career ending injury where he crashed his toy car into a table leg.
if u want stewart little... rox are gonna have to show em some cheddar... and with only the LLE left... i doubt we can get em
There is talk that NVE wants to play in Houston, but no telling if he would play for the LLE or veteran minimum. And I would prefer Underdog.
In all seriousness, is the PG spot really in that bad shape with Sura/James? I like DS and if we can add him then that's great. But if we cant get DS then I dont think we have to be in a big hurry to find an alternative at PG. Personally, if I was the Rockets Mike Finley would be at the head of my list with DS second. If I had my druthers I would rather upgrade Wesley at the SG position over Sura/James at PG.
I think that the idea is to get rid of Wesley and move Sura to the 2 (for defense) and let DS be the spot up shooter, Sura be the slasher and Tmac be... Tmac
The Sura/James rotation isn't all that bad, especially since we got another backup in Head. However, I don't think the Rockets are too comfortable w/ having to rely on Sura for another entire season. He was really hurting at then end of last season and I think JVG really had a big problem w/ him having to guard Terry. Stoudamire isn't a huge upgrade over Sura, but like Willis said, I think the Rox might be thinking about moving him to SG. We all love his toughness and his rebounding ability, I think he would fit in nicely at SG w/ DS at point. Other possibilities: McInnis, Watson
Finley may very well be at the top of that list. I know I'm not pointing out anything new, but since Dallas won't be waiving him anytime soon, we're currently focused on Damon. I'd hate to see us wait on Finley and then have him sign with Phoenix. Then we wouldn't have the opportunity to make an upgrade at any position. I too would like to have Finley, but waiting on him is a big risk.
I agree with this, I don't think we are solely targeting PG, it just so happens the player that brings the most to our roster right now that is reasonably attainable happens to be Stoudamire. What I would, and what I think we will do, is look for good value in a veteran guard/swingman, be it a 1, 2, or 3/2. A guy to fill out the roster who is battle tested guys that can contribute in multiple way. We won't be looking for a pure shooter, we can bring back Barry for that. We won't be looking for a defense only hustle guy, we could always get Bowen. If we are going to add another FA, we want a guy with a little more dimension than that to their game. I think we look for a better all around player, a proven one. DS right now is our chief target. If we don't get him I think we play the waiting game (see what is available late in FA for a bargain), like what we did for Jim Jackson. I think the likely targets would be someone like Finley or Spree, and possibly Houston or Kittles if we think they are say at least at 80%. If none of these guys are available for cheap, I suspect we will stick with Head and Glover as the younger flyers. We could try to land a Johnson, Buckner, Wilkens, Mo Evans, Wallace, or Rush instead of Glover, but it would be hard to land any of them with only the LLE (2 year 3.3 mil) offer we have. Travis Hansen is another possibility if we just think he brings more to us than Glover. Yes, if we acquire DS, Sura probably gets most his minutes in the 2, or even some back-up 3. Even if he was a target for us, Watson will be flat too expensive for us to compete with. McInnis is a possibility, but the fact no one else wants him and the rumers about his attitude makes you think his decent individual basketball skills are more than negated by his effect on team chemistry. I don't think JVG would take a guy like that when he has good chemistry vets (Sura, Wesley, James, Barry) with comparable skill sets. Too big as risk relative to upside. Not really. We don't have to add anyone. Bringing back Sura, DW, James, Barry plus infusing Head and Glover puts us in decent shape to start the season. If there are problems/injuries we can always trade before the deadline for another guard with our multiple expiring contracts. We will be very selective to adding another guard, the guy would have to bring something significantly different than Sura/DW/James/Barry and be a good character guy. We will be choosey, patient, and look for good value.
i don't understand why everyone wants finley so bad. has anyone else even watched the playoffs the past 2 years? finley, known as an offensive player, got shut down by peja in the clutch a couple years back, and even this past year against the rox, he threw up an ugly brick when his team needed a basket most. he's always WILLING to take the big shot, but WILLING and MAKING it are two different stories. earlier in his career, that guy could cut to the basket like today's tmac and dunk it on anybody, but we're talking about a 32-year-old SG who now does nothing but catch the ball, dribble a couple steps to his left and shoot. i don't even remember him putting the ball on the floor once during the entire series against the rockets, not to mention his defense is suspect, to say the least. sure, it would be wonderful to see him torch dallas while wearing a rockets jersey, but we're not aiming to just get past dallas here. i'd rather get a SG who's more defensive-minded, or at least more capable on the defensive end, such as buckner or even patterson. we need someone who can help take the defensive pressure off of tmac. i pass on trigger-happy finley. (dallas fans don't like him -- there's a reason for that.)
I agree with your statements, but I could have stated things a little more clearly. If the Rockets want to upgrade before the season starts at either PG or SG, waiting on Finley and not pursuing anyone else in the meantime is a big risk. If they don't have a strong desire to upgrade now, then (as you stated) taking the risk of waiting on Finley is not a big deal at all. You are taking into account everything up until the trade deadline while I was focusing on the Rockets' goals (assumed goals) before the season starts. I like what Desert Scar brings up: As we look at this situation in light of the entire season and the opportunities that will almost certainly await us at the trade deadline, going into the season without a PG or SG upgrade would not be a terrible thing.
Yep. We need defense, slash-to-the-basket ability. A tall, rangy dude with long arms who can get out on the break. Maybe a Gerald Wallace or a Darius Miles.
who cares... and why do you? u got the point... its a fictional mouse so im sure ITS feelings aren't hurt.
