I have a permenant/fixed retainer on my bottom teeth and recently the wire broke. The break occured at the first molar on the left. The end of the wire is still in the bond, so I have the rest of it intact and now a loose end of wire. How much does it cost to fix something like this? I'm going to have it looked at Thursday, but I forgot to ask for an estimate.

I can't think of any way it can just be "repaired", so I imagine fixing it means removing the one I have and attaching a new one. Anyways, any help is appreciated.

I'm pretty sure a sautering iron may work, if you want to go the cheapie route

Wouldn't this be the work of an orthodontist rather than a dentist?

I have the same type of permanent wire on my bottom teeth as well. How did yours end up breaking? Did you eat something which caused it to snap?

I've always been worried about this.

I don't even remember what I was eating when it happened, but I'm pretty sure that it was caused from years of stress when a chunk of something would get stuck between the wire and my teeth, finally it just broke.

Yeah, you were on the right track. When I read it though, I thought of some iron that you would saute with. :D

I stayed at a holiday inn. But somehow, I don't think that's gonna be enough to help you.
