Any Open Practices This Year??

I am pretty sure they will, they usually don't announce it till the start of preseason, last year it was like the second week of preseason, previous years it was towards the end of preseason.

 

What about Rowdies? Will they be resurrected now that Jeff Bald Gundy is now washing dishes?

 

My understanding is that the league requires one open practice. Rockets in the past had done it on a Thursday morning or something making it hard to show up...Last year it was on a Monday around 11 AM. It wasn't much of a practice, but it was still fun to go to.

I recall someone saying last year that JVG hated that open practice thing and wouldn't have done it if not required. I have no idea what Coach Adelman thinks about it.

 

Someone said on a thread awhile ago that the rowdies would be back. There are some on the board, I'm sure they have gotten the word already, perhaps they will chime in.

 

Tryouts are Saturday, September 22. Rowdies will be expanded from the 70 there were last year. Same section 114.

 

Man, I hope Adelman wouldn't mind NBA Tv doing real training camp. I read that JVG would never allow that.

 

JVG didnt even like having open practices. he was no fun

 

There were a LOT of things JVG hated. When they originally built the practice court at the TC, the idea was that the windows would be open some of the time so people could look in during practice. I even remember seeing renderings with little kids peering in the windows. Rudy loved the idea.

When JVG was hired, he immediately had curtains put on.

He definitely hated the open practice and only did the bare minimum that was required. He loved the fans, but hated when anything relating to fans interfered with the concentration of the players.

 

He got it from Pat Riley. One time an asian basketball team came over to the US for training and asked coach Pat (with Lakers) if they can spend some time to watch them practice, Riley replied.

"I don't even let wife see our practice."

 

Open practice is mandated by the league office.

 

I hope Adelman pulls back the curtains on the practice court. Work three blocks away and would love to go down there sometime and watch them practice. I could even take pics and video clips.
