hey,i just got information that yao will sign a 5-year 70 million dollars contract with rox.anyone know it was true or not?why just 5years instead of 6 years?
It's 100% likely your information is wrong. After Barry, it's Deke. Then Yao. The contract will be for 6 years and for the max allowable.
Actually 5 is the max if he signs this summer, 6 if he waits until next summer. 70M is about the max for 5 years.
I stand corrected. (which never happens ). Then it's obvious he will sign for 5yrs/$70MM because that is the max. Thanks.
Just curious, where did you get that information? ESPN Message Boards? RealGM message boards? A dream you had?
$70 mil is too much for anyone not named Shaq or Duncan. I got that off of www.hoopshype.com. Just kidding if this is true it's a good deal for the Rockets if you compare what Shaq got (even though he took a pay cut) and to what Zydrunas Ilgauskas got from the Cavs. Yao's salary matches up well when you compare him to other centers he's earning an amount right in the middle of the pack.
He will not be in the middle of the pack. He will be right behind Shaq. Let's give Yao the contract to sign tomorrow so this thing doesn't drag into next season and give other teams a chance at Yao.
http://sports.sina.com.cn/s/2005-08-10/0124634199s.shtml According to SINA, Rockets has offered Yao a 5-year, 75M contract while Phoenix offered Amare a 5-year, 90M contract. I'm not sure whether the news is true, if it is true, how could Phoenix offer a bigger contract to Amare? Will Yao accept it if he knows Amare makes more money than him?
I believe that is the max he can get. Shaq got more because his contract was grandfathered or something like that.
If it's true, I don't think Yao will mind. He's a team player and he knows $70 million can buy a lot of video games.
i think sina got that off of some message board. i saw it on on basketball forum. A 90 million dollar extension is impossible given his tenure in the league and remaining contract.
Sina is GARBAGE. It finds some unnamed person to translate anything on internet and presents it like a news. If u guys post some garbage like "t-mac is gay" here, then it would probably appear in sina tomorrow.
Sina has been doing that for a while now, translating the posts on this board and presenting them like news. You can see Clutch's articles translated into Chinese and put on sina.com and tom.com in their NBA section.
That would be absolutely hilarious. Maybe we should hold a competition to see who can get the most ridiculous rumors published in Sina.
And sometimes they begin the translated article with " From the famous American media clutchfans.net"....LMAO.
I think the new CBA said something about you being able to get more if you were in the league longer than 10 years. So Shaq would be able to get more than Yao. Atleast i THINK thats what it said.
The max a player can get is based on tenure in the NBA. Amare & Yao's max deal will be identical. 5 years 70-75 million depending on this years revenue.
You know, that sina article about Yao's extension is most likely a translation from this thread: ESPN790: Rockets and Yao discussing extension So you don't need to go anywhere but right here for the latest scoop. Don't know where they got that info for Amare, because it is flat-out wrong. Yao and Amare are rookies from the same year and will have identical max salaries.
that is correct, like micah said right below your post, the Max a player can receive is based on how long they have been in the league. The highest possible max Yao and Amare can legally get is the same amount. I dont know what the current percentages are in the new CBA yet so I cant comment on how much that is.(NIKE,Scar,GATER?) EDIT: just for a fyi...in the old CBA, the max amount was 25% of the team's salary cap fpr players with less than 7 years in the league
I thought I had seen something about it, so I went and looked. note that this is from Stein, so I cant vouch for it's accuracy...but we can use this until we get the full details. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=stein_marc&id=2121672 EDIT: another note...micah, your post earlier in the thread about contract length appears to be incorrect. so, the according to early reports, the Max Yao can get from the Rockets will be 6 yrs @ 12M/yr..which in my math classes = 72M(before adding in the 10.5% raises)
