I still hold firm my position Lowry should be the starter over Brooks. The only problem with lowry's game is his outside shooting which he was supposed to be working on hardcore this offseason. I just wanted to see if anyone had heard anything regarding his training or anything.

Interesting stat (from wages of wins)
Aaron Brooks Wins Produced last year = -.5
Kyle Lowry Wins Produced last year = 2.3

Aaron Brooks wins per 48 minutes last year = -.012
Kyle Lowry wins per 48 minutes last year = .182

The average nba player produces .100 wins per 48.... Scola was .189, Ariza .192, Landry .175.

I think Kyle deserves a little more credit then he currently gets.

Last year Lowry maybe should have started but this year the Rockets have no offensive firepower whatsoever and if Lowry starts it will be even worse.

Yeah rockets need as much offense as they can get lowry doesnt bring much of that. Now if this was the former "big 3"(artest,yao,mac) then lowry would be an ideal PG

I agree with the OP. Alot of people want to throw Lowry in trades, but I would keep Lowry over Brooks. I think he has better upside b/c he does so many things. If the plays break down, he will create something out of nothing. If the shots aren't falling for Brooks, he can't do much of anything else and his head is not in the game.

I really hope we hang on to Lowry b/c I think he has great upside. That's why I think Morey was so high on him.

If he ever develops a descent three point shot, he would have very few weaknesses.

I agree with you & the OP. I want to point out that one of the things that makes Lowry so effective is coming off of the bench. That is why the ideal situation (IMO) is to trade AB, upgrade our starting PG via trade and keep Lowry in a successful situation of coming off of the bench.

Without Yao, Scola and Brooks are our major offensive power. I do not know if Lowry can make a long distance three at a high percentage, if not, he is not going to take away the PG start position from Brooks. One way to use Lowry more, play two together, this was used last year.

totally agree, KYLE needs a decent 3 point % inorder to over-come/challenge BROOKS.

    I like Lowry.

But do you think his stats are 'better' because he is more refreshed? Brooks definitely playing more?

What about because he isnt require to score as much as Brooks would be, its easier to get an assist then a point, no?

He isnt required to do as much as Brooks so that might be a reason his stats seem higher.

i cant agree with you here... last year, their difference in minutes wasn't that great: Brooks 25, Lowry 22. Lowry expends alot of his energy defensively. After the 07-08 season, john hollinger said he would be an all-nba defensive selection if anyone watched grizzlies games. And 07-08 was Kyle's first full year in the league. He led all players in charges drawn in the playoffs last year... He was 3rd in the league in charges drawn in 07-08 behind varejao and derek fisher... thats as good as a steal..

Kyle also brings better rebounding, shooting efficiency, court vision, fast break ability, strength, and gets to the line at an incredible rate. If he were to get starters minutes, he would be in the top ten of all guards (pg and sg) in FTA / game.

If he develops a three point shot, watch out.

I think it was a game against the Jazz last year; it was like the 3rd quarter and Lowry shot like 8 or 10 free throws. It was crazy, he just kept driving it right into them. Ever since then I've been on the Lowry bandwagon like crazy.

Definitely do not want to trade him. I don't know if he should start over Brooks, but I think our PG rotation is definitely going to be solid this year.

I think Rockets management sees Lowery as a Shane Battier lite. And I think they love Battier. I don't expect Lowery to start, but I think he will be the crunch time player sooner, if not later. I remember reading something attributed to Morey after the aquisition saying that he drew fouls at a very high rate. Clearly he sees different stats than we do. As far as I am concerned you can never overvalue good defense.

I'm glad everyone sees the value of Kyle Lowry. I like Brooks but Lowry is a true point guard and is more effective and influential for EVERY game. Lowry is a tougher cover because of his strenghth and puts plenty of pressure on on defenses (foul trouble). As good as Brooks is... I firmly believ Lowry can average double figure assists given the minutes.

Additionally, I LOVE Luis Scola but everyone seems to sleep on Landry. Landry is the best CLOSER we have on this team. I think Adelman forgot his rotation last year after Carl got shot... but we are a VERY hard team to beat when Landry is finishing games because of his fire, his intelligence, and there is no weakness to his game. He knocks down open jumpers, finishes with the best, and makes key blocks all the time. When the game is on the line, Carl seems to go to the next level.

Okay on the minutes but what about responsibilities? Does that win per 48 minutes get effected from shooting stats and such and we know Brooks take more shots. Most of Lowry's points are from fouls, no? Driving the lane and such. The easier to make points, FT.

Lowry is a human cannonball. He is so good at driving into people's body.

I agree 10000%. I think Lowry has a super high potential.

    1. He controls the flow of the game like an old Vet.
    2. He can get to the free-throw line at any time.
    3. He plays top notch defense.
    4. Great Mid-range jumper.

-1. Needs to extend range on jump shot...

He is younger than AB, and is just a much more natural PG imo...

I think they plan on playing AB at the 2 A TON this year...

Until Lowry can hit the 3ball and consistently score from the outside, he is a backup PG.
