I am going to visit two dealership this weekend for the following 2 cars: 2004 Volkswagen TouaregV6 10490 Miles, dealer asking price 28900 (Kelly Blue Book Value 30065) 2003 Infinity FX35 V6 34000 Miles dealer asking 27000 (Kelly Blue Book 26000) Since this will my first time to buy used car from dealer, I really have no idea of how low the price they can offer me, anyone can offer me some tips? I am thinking if the test drive is all right and I can negotiate the price down to between 26000 and 27000 for Volkswagen or 24000-25000 for infinity then I would pull the trigger. Am I too aggressive on the price?
Why, I have two co-workers drive Touareg and they all ran great. I tested drive one of the cars the other day and it ran great.
Some lower end VW's aren't all that hot, but the Tourag is well built and drives well. Me personally, I would go with the Infinity because it does better in the looks department.
Because the car is worth that and its better than spending 40k on a brand new one when you can get the same car in good condition with a factory warranty for 10k less.
the Touareg has been out for less than two years. Believe me, they'll start breaking down shortly. VW's have a shelf-life of about 3 years.
European, American, whatever. Volkswagens are the crappiest cars ever built. Since the late nineties when all their cars got a trendy makeover, those are the most r****ded vehicles in the universe. Give the Touareg a year or two and then throw it away. The entire "German Engineering" thing they're so proud of is the biggest flaw. Apparently, Germany's on the forefront of plastics or something, because that's the only engineering that went into those cars. The whole ******* thing is plastic. I work on all different types of cars for a living, and I've found that VOLKSWAGENS ARE BY FAR THE WORST CARS ON THE MARKET. I'm getting shaky just writing about the pieces of crap. They give me nightmares. I wake up in the middle of the night screaming and the only image left from the dream is a VW logo. Plastic pieces of crap. Crap, I tell you. If you buy the Touareg, you'll find out for yourself. Find me one person who swears by their engineering as of the year 2000. One person. Please find that guy for me. Please. So I can kill the b*stard. Nissan/Infiniti, on the other hand, is a great company with terrific engineering that nearly rivals that of Honda/Toyota in terms of mechanical reliability or BMW/Mercedes in terms of sophistication. Please God, buy the Infiniti.
Have alot of experience with both brands and I'd drive an Infiniti with 200K miles on it before I would drive a VW with 0 miles on it. In fact, I'd rather walk than depend on a VW of any type. Thats how strongly I feel about VWs.
VM to European built cars as Mitsubishi to Japanese built cars. They just simply doesn't deserve the title.
The FX is pretty legit. I test drove that while I was buying the G35 this fall. FX is very aggressive looking but it maintains a smooth ride. It also has a sweet exhaust note. If the car has the nav unit, it's smoking too. Infiniti retains value well now as compared to the past. I'd inquire about an extended warranty though.
If I'm buying a car, the only brand I'd buy a VW over is a Ford. That speaks volumes. VW's stink. I must remember to start a VW thread in the future, just to get a DallasThomas response... that post has me cracking up.
Did you comparison shop on the internet? If you can decide which model you really want... the VW or the Infiniti, you should be able to find several dealers with year old models on the lot. Returned leases and the like. You can bid one against the other if you are serious about it. I'd pick one and then find the best deal. Don't think you have to rush out and buy one of these two SUV's. Personally, I had bad luck with the one VW I've owned, but perhaps the Touareg is far better than "typical" VW's. I would go with the FX. (or something else entirely) Good luck. PS- that's how I got my '05 Honda Odyssey. You had to either wait, pay a premium (add-ons you didn't want from the dealer), or pay list. I got it for about 3 grand off the list price in San Antonio. I live in Austin, so going to look at it, and to check it out, was easy. It helped to be pre-approved for the loan. You really should check out doing your car shopping this way, and they have pics of them on the web and other info.
Range Rovers (and I think Cadilac) are (according to surveys) worse than VW's. Super high-tech engineering results in a super-whole lot of things to go wrong. Too many variables in the equation. The fact that VW is basically Audi's economy line these days doesn't help things either.
The toureg is essential a porshe cayenne and they are junk. They break down so much that consumer reports had to break the bar to show that it didn't fit on the graph. Go to myvwlemon.com and you will realize how crappy VW's are.
