    Academy

    or perhaps http://www.sunandski.com/

I know for a fact academy will have some though. I bought my cheap jacket there a year or so back. Just finished using it in -9 degrees Fahrenheit temps (highs) in Canada. :D

You really don't want to be wearing jeans or a jeans jacket while skiing. That looks well, um, redneck.

If you can't find ski pants, just wear black track suit pants and you'll fit in.

I bought my ski stuff (pants and jacket, and boots) at a thrift store and the rest at Marshalls or Academy (long johns, thick socks, gloves)

You need waterproof pants, waterproof gloves, and it's a plus if you can get waterproof jackets. Otherwise, you will be wet, cold and miserable.

You also need 'polyester' shirts, socks, fleece and beanie. And a Neck Gaiter if your jacket does not cover your neck well up to your chin.

Marshalls has a reduction in price right now.
You can set stuff at thrifts, but thrifts take time to collect. They don't have everything you need at one time.

You definitely want normal ski clothes, not jeans. If you fall you'll be miserable when your clothes are wet and cold.

Exactly! I learned the hard way going skiing with jeans or worse wearing army pants. Definatley get ski pants, ski jackets, a neck gaiter (its like a scarf but a sleeve that goes around the neck), gortex gloves and get a good hat that you can pull down over your ears. This is especially important if you are just starting out skiing as you are going to fall a lot and the last thing you want is getting a lot of snow inside your clothes and ears.

Even if you don't fall alot you are likely to get very cold from the wind and jeans and sweaters won't stop that. Depending on where you are going longjohns or sweat pants underneath the ski pants are good idea too especially if you get the thinner shell ski pants since they stop the wind and moisture but don't do too much to keep you warm.

Finally get long thick socks. I find socks for hockey skates tend to work the best for fitting and comfort in a ski boot.

One more thing to do is dress in layers as depending on where you are skiing you are likely to get got as you ski and if the sun comes out or the weather picks up. Out in California I've gone from wearing a jacket and hooded sweat shirt down to a T-Shirt in one day. If you are willing to spend the money Under Armor long sleeve mock turtlenecks and workout pants work great as they can help wick moisture from your skin when you sweat so you don't get a cold clammy feeling when waiting in the lift line or riding the lift.

As far as chains I was at Dick's Sporting Goods yesterday and they had some great deals on jackets and pants so you might want to check there.

No you won't look like a douche for skiing like that as good skiing is supposed to be edge to edge. (Although as a beginner you might have a very hard time doing that well.)

You will look like a douche though depending on what you wear.

Don't wear anything neon, especially one piece neon ski suits.
    Don't wear wrap around shades.
If you're out of your teens don't wear the psuedo skate punk gear that teenage snowboarders wear.
On the same note don't wear the Cat-in-the-hat hats, jester caps or any other hats that belong at at rave circa 1998 but you still see people thinking can be worn on ski slopes.

and for the love of all tha is tasteful don't wear the Shawn White ski suits that look table mats from crappy family restaurants!

Also don't talk on your cell phone while skiing, don't text while skiing. (I've seen people actually doing this.)
