I have a 2001 L200 series Saturn Sedan with 154,000 miles. I had to take it into the dealership because the computer system was doing all kinds of weird things. Anyway, this is the 3rd or 4th time theyve fixed something related to the computer system. Now the body control system (BCM) needs to be fixed and they want 440.00 for this. I went home and dug up info on this and came up with all of these recalls for similar things.

Basically, I dont think I should have to pay for this......I think its a failure on their part so I call the Saturn corporation and get the run-around. I give them my VIN number and all they could say is that these recalls do not apply to my car because it was made on a particular month or whatever.

First of all........does anyone know if i can just buy this BCM at a salvage and have a friend install it cheaper? Second, do I have a claim to a recall due to the information I found? I searched Alldata.com and found "ignition control module" recall and I dont think i should have to pay for it.

Any mechanics around? I feel like im being hosed and if I have to pay for this crap after all ive had to pay them for...........im taking out a full page ad warning EVERYONE in America to NEVER buy a saturn EVER AGAIN.

    ______

This mileage is a minor miracle in itself.

How so ? Thats only a little over 25k per year if bought in 2001 and not 2000.
I think that's average for Houston... Unless you live less than 1 mile from work.

I have a '97 car and I used to take it to College Station every other week from Houston and it's on 135K.

Anyways, Saturns do suck.. I suggest a Porsche or Bentley.

    i only drive about 9K/yr.

i think you've got out of the saturn a pretty good deal. Has there been any other major problems or just the computer?

I had a buddy with an old mazda 626 that had over 300K and mechanically it was perfect, however nothing electronic worked. :(

You guys don't get it. He meant that Saturns don't last that long.

(trust me, I had one for nine years... never again... and get someone to work on your Saturn other than the company; they will screw you over and lie to you. They try to make it look easy and cheap to buy a car, then bring you in for lots of maintenance.)

Well, Saturn IS a subsidiary of GM, so that pretty much explains everything right there...

Damn...I'm glad I live in the valley. At exactly one year with the Stang, I had put almost exactly 10,000 miles on it.

i know it's all circumstantial, but even assuming you have a 40 mile roundtrip work commute that comes to:

    40 miles*5 days*52 weeks = 10,400 miles

that's assuming one works every day of the week. that means on your off days you travel 15,000 miles a year. that just seems excessive.

Nationwide average is probably about 9-12,000 miles per year... just a hunch.

The most I ever averaged was about 35k. I know people in Dallas that average 9-10k a year. It aaaaall depends.... :)

i have over 200K on my 94 honda and my friend just sold his 91 honda with 300K. nearly everything is broken on it besides the engine and tranny. buy a honda or toyota. sure, they don't become classics, but they last forever.
