Well, you probably know by now that the movie release has been pushed back a few months. But here's a link to the cast interviewd during the sneak preview of the movie. http://www.iesb.net/movies2/movie120704.php Serenity now!
This is the greatest TV series ever made, I got the boxed set after never watching it when it was on TV, and was blown away. This series had a great cast and wonderful character development to go along with an interesting setting. I wish it was still on as a TV series, though I can't wait for the movie. DD
Joss Whedon is my favorite movie/television maker. Firefly is probably second to Buffy IMO, and just above Angel, but then it only had one abreviated season to grow on me. Adam Baldwin is great as Jane (also, not one of the famous Baldwin family).
I'll try. First, Joss Whedon is a genius. If you liked Buffy or Angel even a little bit, you will love Firefly. Firefly has deeper characterization and less teenage melodrama. What I love about Firefly is that it busts all the western/scifi cliches. For example, at the end of one episode, a mafia hitman told the captain that he will hunt the captain and his crew to the ends of the universe. In a lesser show, the captain would've let this scum live; or worse, the hitman would be killed in a way that is clearly not the fault of the protagonist. Here, the captain just kicked the hitman into the intake shaft of the ship's engine, no questions asked. Another example. The captain just fought a duel with a fancy aristocrat guy for the honor of his girlfriend. The captain disarms the aristocrat but the crowd demands that the captain kills him, because that is the rule of the duel. The captain said something like, "I'm a good person, I don't kill people for no reason." Then he stabbed the guy in the legs. "Maybe I'm just an ok person," the captain mused.
You have to get the DVD set to really appreciate it. For some reason Fox aired the series out of sequence and therefore the TV audience never got a chance to get to know the characters first. If you get the DVD set, by episode 3 you will be hooked. It is just the best written show ever created for television. DD
