Does anyone here fence? Yes, I know it sounds rather dorky but I'm thinking of taking a fencing class. It looks like there are three schools in Houston, it is hard to tell from their websites which would be the best one to go to. Also, foil, epee, or saber?
I put up a fence behind my house. Even though I am MEXICAN, I didn't have the skill, so I had to get my good white friend to help me put up mine. He was good at it. Come to think of it, he's WHITE and he's also good at mowing lawns... I had HIM work for ME on that fence... isn't that a first?
I took fencing in college. It was a lot of fun. I was class champ. That was 30 years ago. I bet the equipment is better...
Yeah, if there are any fencers out there, I could use a new Rolex (or even a Rulex if the price is right).
There's no reason to derail this woman's post with a bunch of stuff about jousting. http://www.uh.edu/~fencing/ http://www.alliance-fencing-academy.com/ http://trojanowski.no-frills.net/favorite_links.html
I used to fence, and I love it. I was mainly foil fencing. My second favorite was Epee. I was on our college team, went to trounaments, and had a lot of fun fencing. Once at a party my roommates and I were throwing, there was a disupte with another party upstairs. I challenged the other party to a duel, lent him some equipment and we fenced to solve the argument. It was a blast. Fencing is great for you legs, it also works your shoulders and stomach. After you get past the basics there is a lot of strategy involved as well. It is one of the things on my list of doing when I get more time. I don't like the pistol grip weapons. I like the classic style. The same goes with bouts. I don't bounce around so much like a lot of fencers. In the olympics some people use more traditional footwork, and others bounce around until they make their moves. Try it out and do what is right for you. See if one of the places offers a special deal for a trial run set of lessons or something.
