So I was playing tennis and when I was landing on the follow-through of a serve, my left knee (I'm a lefty, too) started hurting like hell. There was no pop and it didn't land awkwardly or anything, but it just really hurts when I'm doing certain things. The list includes: Squatting Going up stairs (pushing off with my left leg) Running Getting out of the car It also hurts whenever I uhh push/massage the center of my knee. I'm wearing a brace right now, and probably will get it checked out, but anybody know what's wrong want to quell/heighten my fear? Tryouts for the tennis team are in a month and a bit, damnit.
I'm no doctor but I would recommend getting it checked out ASAP. Could be nothing, but better safe than sorry. Don't be like me and ignore all the signs until your knee completely locks up on you and requires surgery and months of pain and rehab. If you have good insurance use it!
You are able to accomplish all of the above actions, but there is pain when doing them? Or You try to accomplish all of the above actions, but it is not possible because of a physical limitation due to the knee injury?
I'm sorry to tell you this, but you gonna have to cut your leg off. Seriously, you better go see a doctor in person instead of asking people here. Even if there are doctors here, they probably couldn't determine anything without seeing your knee or doing physical tests on it.
sheesh... how did you ever come up with your nick? at least tell him you saved alot of money by switching to geico.
Well, hard to REALLY tell unless you get an MRI but it sounds like torn cartlidge. But, there is no swelling so I can't imagine it being to bad, whatever it is. Could just be some aggravation or slight sprain, maybe just some tendonitis, that would get better with some rest. I've had/have my share of knee problems so, from experience, you really can't tell for sure without that MRI. But, it's a good sign that there is no swelling.
Try 15 minute warmups and cool downs that involve stretches. Icy hot afterwards. Could be tendonitis or the plague. I'm not a doctor.
I'm a Pediatrician and it sounds like you could have Patella Femoral Syndrome. PFS presents with pain in and around the knee. The kneecap is designed to move smoothly over a groove in the femur (thigh bone). When the knee is not "tracking" properly, PFS can develop. Things like getting out of cars and walking upstairs will worsen the pain. It's like an overuse injury with a knee tracking problem, and at least in kids (and I'm sure in adults too) is a very common problem. The main treatment is physical therapy, possibly strengthening your quad muscles. A physical therapist can suggest exercises to combat the symptoms. And you should lay off tennis or other activity that causes the pain for a while.
If its more than just some soreness and taking some alive doesnt get rid of it in a few days go see a doctor. May be nothing but who the hell knows till someone that knows what they are doing looks at it.
Definitely see a doctor. But don't expect an accurate 'all is clear' from a primary care doc. If they say all is ok and it does not get better or you start having repeat injuries, go see the orthopaedist. And one thing to always remember, repeated swelling is bad and needs to be avoided. If you have a minor injury of the knee and it repeatedly swells for years, you could end up with osteoarthritis (each swelling produces free radicals which damages your cells)...much much earlier than 65. Be sure to use ice and anti-inflammatories (an NSAID like ibuprofen) to keep the swelling down.
