If he comes out, I think this man will be a SUPERSTAR in the NBA. He has the body, the game, and most importantly the MIND. He hates to lose, and has a mean streak a mile long. He destroyed any big name player he went against. Chris Mihm is still looking for his lacy panties, after Fizer showed him what a Jock wearing man plays like. I want the Rockets to get this guy in the worst way, he would be such a compliment to Francis. He already plays in a drive and dish offense with Tinsley. Fizer is my choice for best player in College hoops right now. DaDakota ------------------
Fizer is sometimes lazy on defense and he is not a very smart player. Kenyon is all the opposite of that. Kenyon is the real deal and he is the guy to get. ------------------ President of the Moochie Norris FAN CLUB
Best player in college? Well, Cincy did play Iowa State once: Martin had 22 points, 9 rebs, 2 steals, 9 blocks, 0 assists, 3 TOs, 2 PFs in 32 mins of action. Fizer had 26 points, 4 rebs, 1 assists, 0 steals, 0 blocks, 4 TOs, and 4 PFs in 34 mins of action. So, who do you think is better? ------------------ Check out the best source for draft info. Well Fizer will be the best available player for us because there is no chance Martin will be available, unless the other teams ahead of us are completely r****ded. ------------------ The clock is winding down, and Scottie has the ball, Cato is sprinting towards him, Pippen shoots and here comes Cato. Man did you see that block?!!! Ouch it hit Scottie right between the legs. ITS FINAL!! THE ROCKETS ARE THE CHAMPIONS OF Y2K!!!
I like Fizer as well, plus with Fizer you know exactly what you are getting. Until Martin plays in another game you don't really know how the injury may effect him mentally or physically. Martin, before his injury, surely had all the tools to be a great pro, but the injury makes him a bit of a gamble. I don't know if we had a choice between the two who we should choose, I would really be torn. They both have great assets, Martin had a bigger upside, but the injury throws out some question marks. I guess alot of it depends on what the doctors say in the pre-draft physicals and workouts. The biggest advantage I see of Fizer is he took a team of less skilled players to a great year, where Kenyon had a lot of great athletes around him. ------------------
Yes, Francis3 I don't know where you pulled out that "Fizer isn't a smart player from". That guy has the best court vision of any low block college player since, well, Duncan. The main question with Martin is his recovery. Still both have questions, Fizer is a little short and may have to play some 3, and Martin is a little light plus not exactly being overwhelmingly tall either. In truth I would be thrilled to get either one. They have been great, great players that will have little trouble making it on the next level, IMHO. In fact, they have clearly been the 2 best players in college ball this year, though Martin may have had the better game he far from shut down Fizer as he got 26 points. I don't think you would have improved ISU one bit by having Martin instead of Fizer on that team because of what Fizer brings to the table offensively, but I think you could make the argument for Cincy too as Martin was the defensive glue on a team already with plenty of O. ------------------
Fizer takes bad shots at times when he isnt suppose to. ------------------ President of the Moochie Norris FAN CLUB
Martin sets silly picks at times when he doesn't need to. Sorry Francis, I had to take the cheap shot! Fizer is the cornerstone of that team and I do agree that he seems to have went to the CB summer camp, because he does have an affinity for shooting ill advised 3s. However when a team is built around one player, it is tough to criticize their shot selections. Anyways I would be happy, actually thrilled, with either of these guys, assuming Kenyon is back at 100%. ------------------
Fizer shot 44% from 3 land this year, that is equivalent to converting like 66% from the field. Incidently, his field % was a terrific 61%, probably close to the 66% clip if you take out 3's. Either way, he must have been taking pretty good shots most of the time. Towards the end of the MSU game he might not have been taking great shots, but he & Nurse were the only guys who didn't look like a dear staring in the headlights. I agree with 4Chuckie & HOOP-T, regardless of whether Fizer is the equal of Martin, I think the Rockets would be extremely lucky to land either one. ------------------
RF34: Martin had 9 BLOCKS against ISU... Hhhollllllyy Mother Sir...shooting 44% of 3s is equivalent to shooting 44% from the field in the NBA. ------------------ The farther the Rockets move down the standings, the farther I move down the bleachers.
I said the same thing on those blocked shots. The one thing I've noticed in the 4 or so games I've watched Fizer play, is he doesn't play rebounds well, or he's just getting out rebounded. The Rockets need a rebounder, and Fizer doesn't seem like that tenacious guy ripping down boards. That's why he's not Charles Barkley. Everyone discounts the fact that we may just get lucky, and get a top 3 pick, which might land K-Mart. ------------------ Rockets fans wanted at hoopsboards.com Draft Chat, NBA Chat, Team Chat, and more!
No, I would say shooting 44% on 3's in college in suggests at least a 33% 3-shooter in the pros. The line is only like 18 inches different now. If we were talking 1994, bigger difference. Overall, Fizer shot better than 60% from the field, that is good shooting at any level. His field AND 3 %s are better than Mo Pete's, Morris's, Mason's, Carrawell's or just about any other player we have talked about except for Battier. His baseline for 3s may be a little low, but they are promising %'s any way you look at it. I basically see Fizer as a more athletically and perceptually gifted KT. KT senior #'s were 18 & 10, where as Fizer's are 23 & 8 against bigger and tougher competition. Those who think Kenny didn't have a supporting cast never saw Lamont Long either (he is better than any ISU guard). I don't know how KT shot then (I'd guess upper 50s) but his pro clips are .41 (OK for a rookie) & .27 (yuck). And I like KT well enough, so an improved version of KT is worth a lottery pick in my book. Know if we think college %'s are meaningless then we can think of something else to compare potential draftee's with. Anyone know a good Astrologer??? The last thing about rebounds. I do think he should get more, but I don't remember Fizer's man getting boards either (he blocked his man way out of there). And ISU was doing very well as a team even though Fizer is the only guy over 6' 5" while looking hapless inside when he was out of there. Someone must have been doing something right down low against two of the most physical front lines in the NCAAs. [This message has been edited by sir scarvajal (edited March 27, 2000).]
Francis3, You could not be more off base with your evaluation of Fizer. He is a pretty good defensive player and I have never seen a lazy moment in any of his games this year. Believe me, I have followed this guy in the Big XII all year long. The other thing you said, not a smart player???? That made my jaw drop. You obviously have not watched the guy play very much. An added note, he passes very well out of double and triple teams. Why do you think Nurse and Tinsley get all those open looks and threes. Fizer makes them respectable threats as well, thus opening up his own arsenal in the process. ------------------ HOOP-T Hey Shaq, Acme called, and they want their bricks back!
I want him because he plays with TUDE, and is a monster type player. He has incredible skills on offense, and that is what the Rockets need to compliment Francis and Mobley. Fizer or bust !! DaDakota ------------------
