If America had been the Imperial army, we would have just bombed the heck out of the Ewoks from above with a couple of star destroyers...THEN sent in ground forces.

Damn straight. I have a bad feeling about the terrorism that will hit the USA once the attack on Iraq begins.

Luckily, we've gone to code orange and initiated Operation Aluminum Shield or some such nonsense.

But seriously, concerning our chances in Iraq, I heard a *very* encouraging NPR bit this morning from a reporter stationed in Baghdad. She said she'd seen many cities in pre-war circumstances, but she's never seen as little preparation as she's seeing now. No mines, no fortification of civilian property. It's as if there will be no fight in the city at all. That could be fantastic news for everybody. god but I hope they just roll over.

Sadam stepping down is never really an option. Any country that takes him would immediately have a bull's eye attached to it by the American popular opinion. Besides, every dictator in the world today has seen the pictures of Mousolini hanging up side down. Even if the Americans can let Sadam go, the Iraqi people might not.

good point...dick cheney said on Meet the Press..."where would he go? he's not osama who can hide out in caves. this guy is used to his palaces. and he doesn't have many friends immediately surrounding him who would help him."

I'm sure he could come to LA and start a reality TV show.
You know people would watch it. ...

    I wish I was kidding. :(

Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr. Sean Penn on "Sadam's Torture Chamber...Liiiive!!!"

What I loved was how Saudi Arabia announced they would be glad to fill the oil gap by overproducing. Too funny. Isn't that how these wars start in the first place. Hilarious.

I've seen a couple mentions now that if Iraq does use WMD on us, the world will see Bush was right and come to our side. Why would you think that? I know there was a lot of insistence that we prove he has weapons, but I don't think anyone of any importance seriously believes he doesn't have them. Their use won't change anyone's opinions, I doubt.

As for the subject at hand, no there really is no chance we lose.

As for the guerilla war suggestion from Consortium News: how many AK-47s does Iraq have to hand out? I doubt they can arm a significant number of citizens.

Or he could become a middle-east correspondent for CNN or the alphabet channels.

I share the same sentiments but I don't believe not attacking Iraq is going to deter the same brutality that costed us less than 3,000 people.
