I'm thinking of buying a gulf coast bay boat here shortly, I also like the Majek bay boats. Any fishermen on the board?
I'm not but I always heard there are two great days to owning a boat. The day you buy it.....and the day you sell it.
You could always go with the Mystery Box. It could be anything. Even a BOAT! And I know how much you've wanted one of those.
Boat- A hole in the water in which one throws money. I guess there are worse hobbies than fishing but just go in to it knowing there is always something wrong with your boat..water pumps, sheared props, you get stuck on sandbars and whack unmarked pilings etc etc.
I have a ski boat. 19', Inboard/outboard motor. I don't do any fishing on it, though. It's a lot of fun and requires very little maintenance. The proper cliche for boats is that boat stands for "bring out another thousand".
I bought a Sea Hunt Navigator 22 last June with a Yamaha 4 stroke 150. I can't imagine ever wanting another motor than a Yamaha 4 stroke. As for the boat, Sea Hunts are nothing that special, but I think they are probably the best boats for the money. Here's my boat: Anyhoo, I had been looking for a few months when I stumbled across this website that had these great boat prices. Their specials where about 20 - 25% less than the same boats here in Houston. I couldn't believe it.....the only catch: the dealer was in Richmond Virginia. I kept looking, and I tried to get local dealers to match (or at least get close) to their price, but I didn't have any luck. Also, it's really scary to deal with an out of state vendor for such a big ticket item. Especially this company; they don't allow down payments with a credit card. You have to write them a check. Well, I did my homework--even found a few negative remarks on the BBB, but in the end, I found more good recommendations than bad, so I risked a $500 down payment, and a road trip to Richmond. In the end, I'm really happy I did. I didn't like the galvanized trailer they had with it, but they switched it out with an aluminum tandem axle trailer within just a few hours. All told, I spend 22,399 for it when the same boat would have cost me right at 27K at MarineMax. I'll be honest........driving to Richmond from Pearland, and bringing a boat back in one long weekend is not for the faint of heart, but in the end, it was well worth it. And I've got a good road trip story. Here are their August Specials (some you have to call for): http://www.edsmarinesuperstore.com/august_specials.htm
i fish almost every weekend..fresh or salt it doesn't matter...but seems like the people on here are right with the 'old sayings' Get a kayak instead. http://www.texaskayakfisherman.com/
I'm over on TKF all the time too. I'm Fishing Elvis over there. DIdn't think there were any TKF folks that ventured over this way. Not a whole lot of sports talk going on over there. Reggie, Gulf Coast and Majek both make great boats. You might want to check out Tran Boats also. What type of fishing are you planning on doing? I do quite a bit of fishing, both from the kayak and boats. There are obviously alot of boats out there to choose from. Most of it will depend on what type of fishing you plan on doing. Give a little more info and I can make a couple of suggestions for you. I have a couple buddies that are in the boat business also that I can refer you to. Just let me know.
Thanks man, i'm looking for a shallow running bay boat 18-22ft with at least a 115-150 hp engine. I fish the bays mainly and do quite a bit of wadefishing.
For what you are looking for. The Gulf Coast and the Majek are great boats with great reputation on the water. The Majek Redfish Line is one of the shallowst running boats out there, but if you are planning on crossing the open bay it is not the best boat to do that in. The Gulf Coast will handle the chop alot better, but wont run quite as shallow. You would aslo be able to take the GC to the jetties and nearshore is something that interests you. Another option to look at is the Tran Boats. Take a look at either the Tran Cat or Trans Sport, they are also great boats with good shallow water capabilities. Best thing to do is find a dealer and go out on a sea trial for each boat, and that will give you a better idea of what the boat is capable of. You'll find dealers for the Gulf Coast and the Majek, but for the Tran Boats you will have to go down to Palacious, as they don't have any dealers. Another good site to check out is http://2coolfishing.com there is a wealth of info on that site. There are a lot of threads out there about boat comparisons for all sorts of boats. Ask the same question there and you will get a lot more replies. The thing with fishing boats are is there is always a trade off. There is no perfect boat for every situation.
How about the Mystery Envelope...Anyone figure out what's in this thing yet? http://www.goldenpalaceevents.com/auctions/envelope01.php
