    Hey guys,

I'm currently without a laptop. Been interested in a netbook. I can live without a built in optical drive since most of my applications are downloaded off torrents, etc.

The MSI N270 is something I've had my eye on.
-1GB Ram (I would put another gig in)
    -160 GB Hard drive
    -10.2 inch screen
    -$309 at Best Buy

Do any of you guys have netbooks? Any experiences?

Wife has a Dell mini-9. Sucks to type on if you have medium-large sized hands.

Check fatwallet.com/hotdeals and don't forget buy.com either. You'll want the 6-cell battery, especially on the 10" model. MSI Wind is good, and the best sellers are the ASUS Eee PC and the Acer Aspire.

The Dell Mini does have some known issues and the HP has been known to get very hot. So watch out for cheap deals on refurbs.

Likely going with an ASUS of some kind this summer. A friend of mine has the EEE (one of them for under $300) and likes it.

Hope to get one later this year. Waiting on the battery life to improve.

i think the asus 1000ha is suppose to have 9 hours of battery time. something to think about since they're so portable.

acer aspire one is supposed to be the best value. I dont know which model in that series though, it seems that each netbook brand has a dozen model variations.

mine's the HE and the batt's advertised to last 9.5 hrs in 'power saving mode'.
i got more than 6 hrs for usual web browsing.

n the keyboard is supposed to be one of the best for a netbook.

Tell me about it, I'm having such a tough time deciding. I don't want to buy one and realize I could've gotten a model with more features If I had paid more attention.

One thing I'd advise on the screen size: to view, they're great; to hold, they make the laptop too heavy. Go for a screen no bigger than around 15"... you'll save energy holding it.

Do any of you do anything other than email, Web, and Word on your netbooks? I ask because I've had a couple of friends get burned by the fact they're so dang underpowered. I'd almost rather spend $500-$600 on a laptop with a bigger screen and can do stuff than spend $350 on something that chokes on something more than a Word document. If it fits your needs it's fine, but be careful - there's a reason they're cheap.

This is exactly right. The netbook is meant for basic surfing and email. Stuff like video playback and HD capability is limited.

    Netbooks are for "content consumption"
    Notebooks are for "content creation"

Yeah, I have a friend with a netbook... it's useless really except for the internet and basically checking email. Honestly, I can do all of that with my iPhone...

I have an asus it is pretty good except the ssd is dog slow.

I can play back 720p video on it so I can hook it up to the big screen to watch stuff, and it is super light.
