Fourth and Fifty is at it again (shaking head)... http://fourthandfifty.com/2009/12/01/book-review-the-book-of-basketball/
That was pretty much unreadable. I got Simmons' Book of Basketball a few weeks ago. Its an entertaining read. Some of the basketball arguments he makes aren't quite logically sound, but it covers a lot of NBA history in an entertaining way.
Sweet Moses that was long. I stopped reading after his second tangent. Long-winded and full of yourself is no way to go through life, son.
Ugh. I've never seen that blog before, and God willing, I'll never have to again. That was unreadable. I tried, but it was just too pointless a few paragraphs in. As for Simmons....*shrug*. He can be entertaining. The podcast is usually pretty good. I don't really have a problem with him either way.
He can be entertaining, but he annoys me more often than not. Especially with his Boston/NE homerism. I mean, I am a homer, but I do not write for ESPN.
Simmons columns on espn.com crack me up. Never read his books Yeah, he's a total Boston homer and there are far more knowledgeable sports columnists out there, but he is extremely entertaining
Good lord, I've never seen someone write so many words without saying anything at all. He never makes a relevant point or even provides an example of whatever the hell it is he's talking about. That was terrible. The Book of Basketball was a fun and entertaining read. That blog post was the exact opposite. Glass houses...stones.
good to see others found that unreadable as well. i stopped after a few paragraphs. dude was rambling about non sense
As someone that runs a sports web site of their own I always think its funny when someone else has a go at a writer, then tries to copy their style, and fails miserably at both. Simmons is what he is, and to be fair, he has never tried to pretend he is anything other than a Boston fan first, a general sport fan second, and a Boston fan third. If ya don't like it, don't read his articles. Pretty simple.
I'm actually having a tough time making it through Simmons' book. He's trying to be more serious with it than he is in his columns, and without the humor, I'm just left with his often-dubious and always-biased take on the NBA.
I found his book to be very good, I dont always agree with the man but isnt that the point of being a writer? It would be very boring if you agreed with the man 100% of the time. Plus his NE Area Homerism is great because he hates the Lakers/Kobe even more.
