I just heard from my friend that Anthony Mason is being traded for Derek Fisher. I'm not sure of his source but I think it was the radio. Anybody else heard this?

Very very good for the Bucks......

*Edit* OKAY for Lakers. Mason is better than Samaki Walker or Robert Horry. He'd be a good backup for Karl Malone.

    Nope. Haven't heard this.

Sounds like a damn good move for the Lakers to me. Think about it, they've got Payton, so they don't need a starter like Fisher. They don't need him as a back up since they will probably resign Shaw(unless he retires, but why would he at this point) and they also have Pargo. They don't need 4 PG's, so trade the one that can get you something back. Horry and Walker are probably out with the Mailman coming in, so they take on Mason as a back up who can play D, score, and rebound. Sure his contract is big, but his comes off the books after this year while Fisher's still has 2 years left on it. Brilliant move if they actually do it.

wow, that team has the potential to experience the biggest non-Blazer meltdown in the history of sports.

I mean, Mason went to the Bucks, and essentially was the catalyst for the destruction of the Bucks. Now he's going on a team with Gary Payton, Kobe Bryant, Karl Malone and Shaquille O'Neal. That's like dropping a nuke in a lake of napalm. Boom.

Someone needs to put a camera in that locker room, or do a documentary like "Hard Knocks" - that would be fantastic.

Well Shaq did say the Lakers would get Mason! I don't see this being similar compared to the Trailblazers. The Blazers were just full of goons who had their own agenda. These guys on the Lakers are looking for a championship. Now if they win a championship and this same team is intact for next year THEN I can see serious problems for the Lakers. Don't the Lakers have Pargo as a back-up PG?

I don't really like the move for the Lakers--Fisher was their most proven spot of shooting guard. I guess they are confident Rush and Pargo can contribute unless they are going to get a vet (Barry, Peeler, Piatowski, Leanard) for the minimum.

While the team as individuals isn't as big a group of nutjobs like the Blazers - when you add Mason he has a synergistic effect on the other teammates - an innate knack to bring the worst out in his teammates.

I don't think you should underestimate the ability of Mason to burn this team to its foundation.

Last chance for a championship, either Mason will watch his step or people like Payton and Malone will keep him in check.

I agree with Scar - where's the 3-pt shooting? Oh crap, they still have Fox I guess. But still, Horry and Fisher were huge with those 3s. Fox may never get back to what he was either. What made LA tougher was guys like Fisher and Horry and Fox always throwing up those 3s and having them go in.

If the Lakers are trading away Frisher then they must like what they have in Jannero Pargo.

Personally I dont see what Anthony Mason adds to that team. Wouldn't they be better off on trying to bring back Robert Horry at a reduced rate?

I think if the trade was going down, we'dve heard about it in the papers, ESPN Insider, and several other places. That leads me to doubt it. Could still happen....but I'm rather skeptical.

I agree Freak, that's what scared me the most about the Lakers. It wasn't so much Kobe and Shaq as it was the Lakers could get hot from the outside. Now Horry and Fisher could be gone, and Fox probably won't play until January or February, if at all. Geoge is still around but that is about it. That could be a serious problem for the Lakers.

Kobe and Payton can get just as hot from outside as Fisher and Fox or Horry. It's just that they aren't completely one dimensional players either.

I don't know Pued. Kobe and Shaq are probably coming back with something to prove. The 3 guys, Mason, Malone, and Payton, all want a ring pretty bad. They're sacrificing a lot of money for the chance at a ring aren't they? Don't you think they'd also sacrifice some of their game in order to get the ring too?
A lot of people think that 4 hungry future hall of fame players won't be able to find a way to play together because of their egos, yet everything they've done so far has been about sacrifice. Is everyone just dying to see them fail? Barring injuries, I don't see anyone beating this team for the championship.

God, talk about adding nitroglycerine to an already combustible mix!!!! Mason has gone from being a major contributor to being a cancer. I don't hold him single-handedly responsible for the Bucks meltdown, but he was definitely a factor in that mess. Why do you add yet another player who is unhappy without the ball in his hands constantly to a team with four players already like that? If you thought Shaq vs. Kobe was good, this is going to be a cage match royale of king-size egos.
