JP's gone, Pike, Rice & Griffin aren't our long-term sf, Nachbar hasn't improve much, we have no shot at Odom. Here's our last hope: a guy will fit into this team perfectly and who we might have a chance getting: Grant Hill Hill never success in Orlando and since the signning of Howard, I think he's no longer in Magics' plan. however, I think he could regain his glory in Houston and will be the perfect compliment to Yao & Steve. I'd give Mobley and Taylor for Hill but their primary need is point guard and center therefore, here's a 3-way involving the T-Wolves: Hou. get G. Hill Min. gets Mobley Orl. gets Troy Hudson + Ervin Johnson + Taylor + 1st Rd pick(Min 05') Cassell make Hudson expandable so they might interest to trade him for Cat to come off bench behind Wally & Latrell. Gooden is the Magics' starting 4 and I don't think Howard signed with them to come off the bench behind Hill, so I think Hill is the odd man out. Hudson just had a great playoff performance gives them a decent point, Johnson provides the rebounding and shot blocking they coveted for years, and Taylor gives them another big body and low-post scoring. in all, they trade a star they don't need(Hill) for 3 quality role players who could help them a lot. trading for Hill is very risky but I'd rather invest the big$ in Hill than Taylor. Pike & A. Griffin could share the minutes at 2 and we then pick upVladimir Stepania to back up Yao Ming and move Cato to the 4. I think a line-up of Yao, Steve, and Hill would make us the 5th seed in the WC. behine LA, SA, Sac, and Min. Yao Ming, Stepania E. Griffin, Cato Grant Hill, Rice A. Griffin, Pike Francis, Norris
since the T-Wolves just aquired Johhson from a recent trade, it has to be after 8/27/03 for the restriction to be expired though.
I'm sorry but Grant Hill will never be the same. They basically say his foot is just completely damaged and they even had to build a special shoe to conform to his foot and that didn't help. He is not worth the money or the chance that he may not play. Too risky in my opinion.
Grant Hill with one wheel and a past or a healthy Bostjan Nachbar with a future? Come now. Back to the cafe, Hard Rock. Smell the coffee.
I think Orlando would love to get all of that for Grant Hill. 1. Does Minn really think Cat is worth Troy Hudson + Ervin Johnson and a 1st round pick? I don't know if I think Cat is worth that and I am a huge fan of Cats. 2. Does CD think that Grant Hill (a 30 year old player that will be 31 when the season starts with a huge contract and is not a free agent until 2005 and has been hurt the last 3 seasons and contributed nothing) is worth both Cat and Taylor? Remember that we are not talking about the Grant Hill from Detroit, we are talking about the Grant Hill with the albatross of a salary that has produced absolutely zero over the course of the last 3 years.
I know its Summer but lets get back on track. We already got old damaged goods in Rice, lets learn from our mistakes.
I'm not quite sure why you think that Hill isn't a part of the Magic's plans just because they signed Juwan Howard. They play completely different positions right? Howard is there to play the 4 or 5 (since centers in the East aren't so great) along with Gooden. So it's not like the Magic are replacing Grant Hill. Didn't they trade Mike Miller last year for Gooden, which freed up some minutes at the three for Hill? I think they still hope for Grant Hill's return to glory, even though it's doubtful this will ever happen. And even if they wanted to trade him, there doesn't seem to be anybody in the league extremely interested; I don't think CD would take the chance, especially not by offering Mobley AND Taylor.
im sure orlando would absolutely love that trade. they get to dump off a guy with a $90 million dollar contract who cant play and refuses to retire. so we loose mobley and taylor, two valuable assets to this team, and get a guy who hasnt played more that 50 games in the last 3 years. grant hill will never play in the league again. he is done. finished. finito. its a real shame too. his whole career he had people saying he was soft and had no fire. poor guy breaks his ankle in a crucial playoff game and to show all his detractors wrong, goes out and plays on it isaah thomas-style. that right there is what ruined his career. he has not been the same since then.
From someone who lives in orlando and hears much more than he would like to about Grant Hill, my response to that trade is: NO WAY. The magic would absolutely love to find a team stupid enough to take the guy. He's never going to play again, and even if he does, he won't be the same. That would be possibly the stupidest move that the rockets could ever make.
and the thread title is a bit misleading. i thought you were suggesting bringing in iverson to play the 3. that would make more sense than hill though.
Hill is already out for this year and Min. just traded for Sprewell. He'll probably play the 2 while Wally World will play the 3 and will probably switch back on forth on offense and defense to create better matchups for them.
I can think of only 1 reason for the Rockets to acquire Grant Hill. To wait (and hope) for the league to give them a medical cap space exemption next summer. This and letting Rice's contract expire would give the Rockets some serious money next summer for FA signings. And in addition to the FA's, we'd have a very good Lottery pick since the 2003-2004 team would consist of basically the current roster with no Mobley, Taylor or Hill for the season: 1 SF / Moochie / vet min player 2 Pike / SF 3 AG / Rice / Nachbar / Hill on year long IR 4 EG / vet min 4/5 5 Yao / Cato I'll pass on GH.
