Wet baby in tumble dryer: man charged

A 13-month-old baby suffered horrific burns when she was put in a clothes dryer, police say.
The baby was left with her mother's boyfriend at a home in the Perth suburb of Warwick while the woman went to a gym for about an hour last Thursday, police said.
Police were told the baby had spilt liquid on herself and the man put her in the clothes dryer and turned it on.
"The person we allege has done the act has stated that he has put the child into a clothes tumble dryer, closed the door and turned it on for a couple of minutes,'' Senior Detective Deb Newman said.
"The child had burns to both feet, to one of her hands, burns and bruising to her back and bruising to her forehead,'' she said.
"The injuries are horrific. In my years of being a police officer I have not seen or heard of this type of injury before.''
The mother returned home to find her daughter suffering serious burns but her boyfriend did not mention the dryer, she said.
Police investigated after the hospital where the baby was treated informed them the child's injuries were suspicious and highly unusual.
Snr Det Newman said the mother was distraught but the toddler should make a full recovery and be released from the burns unit at Princess Margaret Hospital for Children later this week.
Samuel Marc Barnes Siddall, 21, of suburban Beldon, appeared in Perth Magistrates' Court today charged with causing bodily harm or danger.
He was granted bail on condition that he did not approach, or contact, the mother and child.
He is due to appear in the Joondalup Magistrates' Court at a date to be set next month.

C'mon theres nothing wrong with a little death beating every now and then. Mostly now. To this guy. If you witnessed this, you wouldn't help the baby, call 911, then beat the guy until he stopped bleeding? I think a little life in prison wouldn't be so bad considering the circumstances. I'm serious. And I'm against the death penalty.

C'mon, at least he didn't put her in a microwave, a microwave would have been MUCH worse. You guys aren't looking at reality. If the kid was put in a microwave, they would be dead! But this one only was put in a clothes dryer which is not even CLOSE to as bad. He deserves a medal, and those that don't agree hate America.

Several years ago, a young mother up here in Arkansas somewhere actually did tht. First she performed oral sex (if you can call it that) on her weeks old baby then put him in the microwave. I remember reading that she took him to the hospital because she actually damaged his member doing the oral stuff and then she ended up admitting the microwave thing once authorities were called. I think she said she did it seconds at a time.

please, anything is fair game. what makes something like this immune to mockery as opposed to Britney Spears and her parenting skills? everyone makes fun of something that others would find offensive.

The kid is fine, there is no need to jump on someone for making a joke. As for the story, there are a lot of very stupid people in the world. The guy had a wet baby that he wanted to be dry and decided the best way to accomplish that would be to use the dryer. At least putting something in the dryer to dry it makes some kind of sense. The guy is clearly a moron and should not be put in a position where he is responsible for another's life.

Yeah, I'm with Stupid...moniker. The kid survived and is being treated, the guy is up on charges. I don't think this is some untouchable subject that no one can make a joke about. People are way too touchy.

What else can you do about it other than

    1.) b**** about it
    2.) Laugh about it

It isn't like anyone here was directly effected by it or had been thrown into a dryer when they were a kid so why not try to diffuse the ****ty scenario with a joke. I agree, you people are way too touchy.

That's whats so sad. Anything is fair game.

I guess not everyone can be comedians. Sometimes Clutchfans seems like a dumping ground for wanabe comedians and their groupies.

it's no different than "professional" comedians. they make fun of anything and everything. i guarantee if you were at a comedy club, and somehow the comedian used this bit as part of his show, you'd be laughing.

    1. When I saw Another Brother (a professional comedian) he made no fun of helpless and abused children.

    2. The comedian that did poke fun at sensitive issues walked off stage with pity applause.

    3. I would not laugh at the pathetic soul who makes jokes at things like this. On the contrary, I would probably walk out at a club, or change the channel on the tube. Don't guarantee things about me that you know nothing about.

Some people are so cool, making fun of a child that was hurt, is going to have nightmares for a long time and will be scared of small places because of this idiot.
