There was a trade involving Houston and Vancouver discussed in another thread:

    http://bbs.clutchcity.net/ubb/Forum3/HTML/013772.html

The one weakness in the trade was why would Vancouver do it? I thought it through and came up with the following addition to sweeten the deal for Vancouver and assist the Magic out in their endeavor to sign A. Davis.

Houston trades: Matt Bullard $1,481,481 to Vancouver
Houston trades: Carlos Rogers $2,200,000 to Vancouver
Houston trades: Walt Williams $4,500,000 to Vancouver
Houston trades: Jason Collier $1,190,760 to Orlando
Houston trades: Kelvin Cato $5,400,000 to Vancouver (BYC Value $2,700,000)
    TOTAL: $14,772,241

Orlando trades: Mike Miller $2,320,080 to Vancouver
Orlando trades: Bo Outlaw $4,500,000 to Houston
    TOTAL: $6,820,080

Vancouver trades: Kevin Edwards $548,500 to Orlando
Vancouver trades: Michael Dickerson $1,310,400 to Houston
Vancouver trades: Grant Long $2,200,000 to Houston
Vancouver trades: Isaac Austin $5,257,583 to Houston
Vancouver trades: Cash Considerations of $3,000,000 to Houston
    TOTAL: $9,316,483

    RATIONALE:
This is a variation of a trade posted previously on this forum which only included Houston and Vancouver. I expanded it to include the Magic because they need to gain additional cap space to sign the Antonio Davis.

Vancouver has blown up the team and would acquire two big guys in Cato and Rogers that would be able to run with their new point guard. By adding in the Magic, the Grizzlies gain Mike Miller to run with J. Williams. Additionally they get a couple of shooters that may help them space the floor.

Houston picks up two serviceable players in Outlaw and Dickerson and gets rid of Rogers, Collier, Cato, Bullard, and Williams.

By picking up Austin and Long, players with contracts that end next year, the Rockets also free up additional space following next year.

Check out the rest of the original post...

I've been thinking...and this is the direction that I think the Rockets should go in if they wanna contend for a LONG time:

Houston trades: Walt Williams $4,500,000 to Vancouver
Houston trades: Kelvin Cato $5,400,000 to Vancouver (BYC Value $2,700,000)
Houston trades: Matt Bullard $1,481,481 to Vancouver
Houston trades: Kenny Thomas $885,120 to Vancouver
Houston trades: Jason Collier $1,190,760 to Vancouver
    TOTAL: $13,457,361

Vancouver trades: Future First Round Pick $0 to Houston
Vancouver trades: Kevin Edwards $548,500 to Houston
Vancouver trades: Grant Long $2,200,000 to Houston
Vancouver trades: Isaac Austin $5,257,583 to Houston
Vancouver trades: Cash Considerations of $3,000,000 to Houston
    TOTAL: $8,006,083

This trade was accepted on Real GM...This would improve Vancouver's team, get rid of our SF glut, and Grant Long and Ike Austin are both Free agents next year.

The beauty of this is the following:

We save cap space, specifically 5.4 million worth of it. Vancouver honestly come off with players MUCH better than they traded. The only contract WE keep is Edwards for an extra year after the other two FAs.

    No frontcourt you say?

With the 13 million we had, plus the 5.4 million that we make, we offer something like 6 million to MO, 5 million peryear to Nazr Mohammed, and a TWO year DECLINING contract to Dream. Something like 5 million this year, and 4 million next year.

    So we'd look like this:

    C - Hakeem/Nazr (18 minutes)/Austin
    PF - Mo-T/Nazr (14 minutes)/T-MO
    SF - Griffin/Langhi/T-MO
    SG - Mobley/Norris/T-MO
    PG - Francis/Norris

IR - Colson and Grant Long

One problem: Shandon has to be gone, unfortunately.

But we end up with a great team.

When Austin leaves the following year Nazr will get a lot more minutes, and we'll have cap releif from Hakeem's declining contract and Free Agents Grant Long and Ike Austin.

THEN, NEXT year, we sign a back up C, or we draft one.

Don't tell me the trade is lopesided, coz Vancouver come out younger and better.

The Magic would not agree to this trade.

To get Vancouver to take Cato and Williams we would probably have to take Bryant Reeves from them...also, I think Vancouver would rather have Dickerson than Miller. Miller is probably not quick enough to excel at SG. At SF, they already have Gasol and Battier, so Miller is kind of repetitive.
