With the NFL season soon approaching, I have debated switching from cable to satellite. D-TV is the only provider to carry NFL Sunday ticket and my cable company does not have the NFL network so I stgand to lose out on a lot of games (especially Eagle games ). I currently have cable through SuddenLink and I am paying almost $190 a month. Now with my plan I have 2 digital cable boxes and 1 DVR, I get every channel that is available (even HD channels), and I have the highest speed Internet they have available. Without my Internet my cable bill would be somewhere in the $140-$160 range. Now, I want to stay away from satellite Internet and either go through the cable company or phone company. So, for either of those I would have to pay for basic cable or phone service $20-40 per month plus Internet service at $30-50 per month for a total somewhere between $50-90 per month for Internet. Disregarding the price tag for NFL Sunday ticket, would I save anything by switching to satellite from cable?
Glad you started this topic Lil Pun- I got a flyer in the mail yesterday for both Satellite services and was wondering what the TV upside was VS Comcast. Anyone in the know?
Señor Pun... $190 a month... did you say $190 a month? A MONTH!?!?!?? WTF you get, all the Playboy and Penthouse and HARD CORE pr0n channels non-stop?!?!?!?!? I pay about 60... and that's WITHOUT HD! At about this time last year, I got a flyer in the mail that said DirecTV bundled the NFL Sunday ticket whatchacallit and the premium channels all for four months... and I bought my satellite thingie this way. Many eons ago I created a thread that had some fraudulent-type but nifty and money-saving ways to get DirecTV to upgrade your shiznit if you try to remove Sunday Ticket. Wait for this flyer in your snail mail or call DirecTV directly, and I bet if you bargain you can get some cool upgrades without paying for them.
LOL! No, no adult channels. Yes, $190 a month and yes I feel I am getting ripped off but what I am thinking is transitioning to satellite won't really save me any money because I still must go to a second party for Internet.
If your main objective is to get the Sunday Ticket, you have no choice. Get DirecTV. I would just try to negotiate your best deal with them when you initially order.
I used to crack the Direct TV H-cards and get all the premium channels for free. I paid for the regular service but all the movies and sports events were on. DD
I think direct tv has a promotion for new subscribers to get NFL ticket and installation free. The only downside is you have to pay extra for a HD DVR box, the other stuff is included HD box, regular dvr, etc.
You know you can go back to your GLORY days and do us all a favor, DaDarkOne... Be a pal...? huh? Give, give...
Do you really want to see all those losses before Kolb takes over at QB and the eagles still finish last in the division?
This is all still possible, but it's a hassle, especially when you're on hour #6 of drinking beer on Sunday and you have to reprogram your card when you can't see straight.
OK, I found out by switching to satellite and having internet through cable or DSL that I could save $40-50 per month. The thing is I will be moving sometime, how difficult is it to move satellite services and equipment? What sort of fees would I be looking at when making the move? When setting up or installing satellite what types of changes or modifications do they make to the house? Thanks.
I was with dish network when I moved and I believe it was a 100 for them to come out and install a dish at my new place or it was free if I signed on for another year. I ended up moving it all myself. It was easy, just moved the dish around until I got a good signal. Drilled a hole through the brick wall for the cable and that was it.
I hate cable tv, I want sat. but I dont know if I should get Direct or Dish. Who has better HD programming? and better pricing. I unforunately will have to stay with Comcast for internet.
So what modifications will they make with the initial instalation? I rent my current home so I don't want anything to be drilled torn apart or down or anything else major. How does that part work? Is instllation that big a deal?
Is the home you are moving into cable ready? If it is then they'll just bolt the dish to your roof or mount it on a poll in the ground and plug it in. If not it'll just be couple of 1/4in. holes. Do you already have a service and are you moving to an area where you will not receive the Houston locals anymore? If so and you move it yourself don't tell them your new address so you can keep the Houston locals.
I live in Arkansas. The deal I am looking at with DirecTV includes all the local channels, premium channels, etc. It comes with DVR and a 4 room connection as long as you purchase NFL Sunday Ticket which is the main reason I want to switch besides saving some money. Like I said, I rent my current house but I don't want anything to be modified majorly because I don't want to lose my deposit or anything like that but I have seen numerous apartments around town with satellite receivers so I am assuming there isn't much to it. My friend actually said they can do some sort of flower pot setup, whatever that means. So anybody know? I also really need to look at and read the fine print. Anybody have any pointers for me in what to lookout for on that end?
If you go with DirecTV they will move you for free...no cost. You just take your receiver and leave your dish at the old house, and they will setup a new dish at the new place. Funny this thread came up, i'm actually considering canceling my NFL Sunday Ticket subscription after having it the past 4 seasons. They make you pay an extra $100 or something for Superfan, so last year I called and b****ed and they gave it to me for free. Maybe this year they will give me the whole package for free, otherwise I'm getting rid of it.
