http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headline/entertainment/4382881.html LOS ANGELES — Andy Dick is apologizing for using the same racial slur that got ex-Seinfeld star Michael Richards in trouble last month. Dick, a former co-star of the 1990s sitcom NewsRadio, jumped on stage during a routine by Ian Bagg at L.A.'s Improv on Saturday night and used the n-word in an apparent attempt to joke about Richards, the celebrity Web site TMZ.com reported Tuesday. Dick issued an apology through his publicist. "I chose to make a joke about a subject that is not funny," said the statement, which was provided to the Los Angeles Times. "In an attempt to make light of a serious subject, I have offended a lot of people, and I am sorry for my insensitivity. I wish to apologize to Ian, to the club and its patrons and to anyone who was hurt or offended by my remark." According to TMZ, Dick had been heckling comedian Bagg from the audience and then joined him onstage, when the two discussed Richards. When Dick exited the stage, he suddenly grabbed the microphone and shouted at the crowd, "You're all a bunch of ...'" — using the n-word. An Improv manager wouldn't comment about the incident when reached by the newspaper. ------------------------------------ This guy will do anything for attention.
To quote the great Toll Booth Willie: "Well, I already heard that one you f***ing unoriginal b*stard! Go suck a corn you f***ing piece of repeatin s***!"
Neither do I, Dick is just the biggest attention w**** in Hollywood. This is a new low in publicity stunts, even for him.
Another, don't you actually have to build up to something like that...? I mean, if you see the crowd is not reacting to your silly joke... don't you abandon it and try something else? Nonetheless, you have to be a "friendly" racist comedian... not just an a-hol.
News Radio (which included Andy Dick) rules. Such an underrated show, which I think ranks so close to Seinfeld. This is totally irrelevant to said story, but I just thought I'd mention it. Carry on.
The day we can't laugh at ourselves is a sad day indeed. What Andy Dick did was funny...he was CLEARLY making fun of Richards... DD
I think everybody has certain prejudices but not everybody is racist. I think this was just a shot at Richards and nothing like what Richards did.
I can't wait until we can freaking bury this stupid n-word. The reaction black people have to the word just gives the word more power. Between it being the ultimate taboo in mixed race situations and the way the word is used in hip-hop and other forms of predominantly black culture, the word is the ultimate in enforcing the idea that race should be divisive. The word that is allowed inside the race but taboo outside the race. How is this not a form of racism? Embrace the word or abandon it.
Knowing Andy Dick's comedy, I would say he was just being himself a usual fool. But his comedy is much under appreciated. He had this hilarious reality show a few years ago.
The crowd has to trust you and know that you are going somewhere. Even with that many of my friends and I have learned valuable lessons and our approach will never be the same. Reluctantly I admit, there may be some good that has come out of all of this.
Do I look like a drug dealer? Why don't we start off with something small? How about a fresh towel? Would you like an 11 year old prostitute sent to your room? We can do that for you. Before you go Cheech, your credit card has been maxed.
