I knew I wasn't the only who is starting to dislike/hate ESPN!!! Yes I got the site from last year, but when I hit the link for "NBA" on the left side of the screen, it went to the current and correct site.
What other sports stations are there? Fox Sports? The only show they have is that Best Damn Sports Show. They show so much hockey.
The correct site is http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/index Don't know why they changed it and don't know why they didn't delete the old one.
sheesh, they have one broken link and suddenly they suck? do you realize how difficult it is to maintain a sight of that magnitude, with hundreds to thousands of pages? You expect perfection?
sheesh, they have one broken link and suddenly they suck? I remain amazed at how many people who think ESPN sucks keep using ESPN and finding the next time they suck. You'd think if they sucked so bad, people would stop looking at their site.
Well, what else is out there? Fox Sports? The only show they have is that Best Damn Sports Show. They show so much hockey. Hmm, sounds familiar, doesn't it?
What's sick is that's not even the playoffs from last year, that's the playoffs from TWO years ago. Witness the links about Milwaukee beating Orlando, and the Kings-Suns first round series (Kidds last year in Phoenix), and the Knicks/Raptors series and Van Gundy coaching the Knicks, and the Pistons interviewing Dwane Casey for their head coaching job and Rick Mahorn lobbying for it? I mean that's just sloppy, it's 2 years old. Just add a re-direction link or something.
Not perfection. I do realize how difficult it is to operate a site of that magnitude, since my company operates a lot more sites with a lot more traffic than ESPN/Go. However, I think my anger at them is mainly motivated by the fact that I play ESPN Fantasy Basketball (which I paid for) and they have not cleared trades or waivers for almost a week which ruins the game. Apparently, there is some manual work to do on their behalf and they simply have not had anybody do it between Christmas and New Year. If you read the ESPN Fantasy Games message board, you could see that I am not the only one who is pissed off. An easy back-of-the-envelope calculation can tell you that they must be making millions with their fantasy games, with relatively low maintenance. They should at least maintain them then. Anyway, the wrong homepage (I am sure I clicked on a link from ESPN to get there, but I don't remember where I came from) just put me over the top. And Major, remain amazed - I also keep using Microsoft and it is not because I love them or think they are the best thing since sliced bread.
There may well be a broken link, but I have occasionally come across that page several times in the past year or so, by mis-typing the URL. It just seems as though they transitioned to separate servers / IP addresses, and didn't remove the old content from that machine. I agree a redirect would be nice, but it's hardly a big deal. I'm surprised a link from their site got you there though. As an aside, I'm impressed, SJC, that your company runs sites with a lot more traffic than ESPN. I would have thought it was one of the highest traffic US sports sites there is. Here in the UK, it's definitely the best source of info for NFL/MLB/NBA, and I'm sure that's the case in most of the rest of the world too.
This is true. I work for ESPN's fantasy basketball section and we have been commissioned time off for the holidays. I thought for sure someone would stick around to take care of that kind of thing. I can bring it up with my "superior" and see what happens.
