Well, Alvin Gentry was just fired by the Pistons. I personally did not see that coming. Can you imagine how lucky Rudy T. feels, he's coaching a team that's 24-35, and he signs a contract extension. A coach on a losing team signing a contract extension in the NBA happens once every February 30. The Rockets sure know about loyalty.
I'm surprised. I thought they were content to be mediocre. What does Hill think about this? Was this a move to get Hill to stay or are they risking his wrath?
Hill has never proven that he's going to hit the big shot, or be unstoppable, in the clutch. Their problem is they're building around the wrong player, IMO.
Without 2 rings, I see Rudy in the same boat - that's blatantly obvious. I think that it's about time that the NBA and NFL took a look at management and coaching staff and said, "mediocre just doesn't cut it." Teams like the Clippers have been far too bad for far too long...there should be no such thing as a Cinderella Team when it comes to professional level sport. There should be no "gimme" games and all teams should barely make the playoffs but I can see that we're never going to buld that egalitarian Utopia so the next best thing is to boot the coach's ass outta there!!! I think they fired the wrong guy. Teams like Detroit have problems because their front office isn't very good. Maybe Gentry wasn't a good coach; if he wasn't, firing him only treats the symptoms of the disease, it doesn't get to the root of the problem. Start with the GM.
