Lewis' agent, Carl Poston, met with Houston Rockets general manager Carroll Dawson on Tuesday to informally discuss whether Lewis would consider joining his hometown team. However, it seems unlikely that the Rockets are as attractive to Lewis as Dallas is, particularly because Houston's only preference is a sign-and-trade deal. Also, the Rockets do not have the same history of taking care of their players as Cuban does. Lewis was not present at the meeting with the Rockets, and Houston did not present an offer. http://www.tribnet.com/sports/story/1516290p-1633643c.html
What do they mean not taking care of their players? Someone tell me, Im not bright I wish you would tell me
What an absolute, total piece of crap. (the article, not the Bulls, gettinbranded. Don't shoot the messenger... this time. ) A complete and utter falsehood. Yellow journalism at it's worst.
That's all you need to know about the article. Hughes is one of the most biased baskteball writers for any newspaper covering the NBA. As I recall, he used to write for the San Antonio Express-News, and was no better then. His job is to make the team he is covering look as attractive as possible and nothing else - whether it means reporting the truth or not.
They do have a point. The Rockets, without question, keep their word and reward players. They also treat them fairly and honestly. But, do they lavish things on them like Cuban does? DVD players in their lockers? First class in every sense? Not really. No one in the league does that. The Rockets are honest and fair, but they are not extravagant. That is probably what Hughes meant and, in that sense, he is absolutely correct.
Cuban may be more "first class", but I think that his integrity is lacking in comparison to the Rockets. Last offseason, Tim Hardaway wanted to sign a small contract to play out his career as a good backup on a winning team. Dallas promised him everything. At the first chance Cuban had to improve, he shipped Tim out to NBA hell (Denver these days) to get something better. A similar situation occurred two years ago with Danny Manning. While Manning hasn't been shipped off, he hardly ever plays. Though Dallas can offer more lavish things, I'm not sure how much you can trust Cuban's word. There's a decent chance Rashard could get dealt if the opportunity arose, or not get the minutes if he slumps.
Im not aruging, but he didnt actually say Dallas was lavish and the rest of the league are "cheap" He said, Also, the Rockets do not have the same history of taking care of their players as Cuban does. That sounds more like an attack aginst our management, you think maybe he has been talking to Dream
Of course Dallas is lavish. Cuban sold his broadcast.com corporation for over 400 Million. Im sure it was only value at 30 milion (in the bubble days).
Wasn't Danny cut? If the Dallas Mavericks win a championship under the ownership of Mark Cuban, then it will only prove what George Steinbrenner has been telling us for years; Money can buy championships.
Isn't that Marks responsability to the team? Perhaps he's supposed to keep the man, and not improve the team?
Been proved already. The last two superstars to win real championships were Shaquile (Lakers shed players like nothing to get him) and MJ (33 million for a season? )
Well, it is his responsibility, and it's not that he's completely wrong for that. It's just that he doesn't appear to have a lot of loyalty to the players he brings in, and that's something Rashard would really need if he were going to sign for three years at below market value. Rashard would need that trust in Mark Cuban's word to risk the 70 million or so he'd pass from Seattle, and looking at examples like Tim Hardaway, I'm not sure how valuable Cuban's word is. Mark's definitely doing what is best for Dallas... however, there are a few sacrifices he's had to make to improve his team. To an extent, player loyalty is one of them.
Unless you were calling 99 an "unreal" championship before the season started (which I saw no one outside of Phil Jackson do), please stop it. It's funny that with all the bias you accuse me of having, you pull something like this to describe the championship from the year one of your teams didn't win...
Cuban is kind of two-faced to me. Yes he shipped Hardaway & Howard off after making commitments to them but he also gave them their playoof shares even though he didn't have to. He promised Gary Trent a large contract if he stayed w/ Dallas during Cuban's 1st or 2nd year of ownership but he let Trent go after the season b/c he got hurt and missed like 20 games during the year. Cuban does a lot for his players but in the end, it comes down to winning and if you gotta trade a player you like or cut someone to make your team better, thats what you gotta do sometimes. PS: Lewis is gonna resign w/ the Sonics.
