Sorry for having to start another thread since there's been about 50 of these LCD-Plasma threads. I just wanted to ask the experts on here what's a better option, buying

    a 40/42 inch 1080p LCD

    or

    40/42 inch 720 Plasma

    Thanks guys

if it's an LCD vs plasma question, why are you giving an upper hand to LCD to begin with?

why not a 1080p LCD vs. 1080p Plasma?

eitherway go with what you can afford. dont let people make you believe either is better..if YOU cant see the diff..then its useless.

the only reason i would choose an lcd over a plasma is if youre going to use it in a very bright room, if youre ever going to use the screen as a computer monitor, or if the lcd is a 120hz set.
the 720p plasma, I think youre referring to a panasonic model thats been going on sale a lot, is an excellent set for a really cheap price. I believe you can find it for around 600-700, and there are few if any lcds youll find in that size that can compete with the PQ. The 720p panny just doesnt have the 5:5 or 2:2 pulldown cinema modes that the 120hz sets have. The 480hz refresh some plasmas talk about is a marketting ploy, do not fall for it.

The reason is that the price of a 1080p LCD is similar to that of a 720p Plasma for most brands I've seen out there, thats why I wanted to compare them since they're around the same price.

Really you'd want to compare a 40/42in 1080p LCD to a 50in 720p plasma. Those prices are closer, especially within the same brand name like Samsung for example. Plasma is the better bargain (excluding the elite top shelf versions).

How common are the LED LCD tvs now?

Mine has the flouro light in it but I think the contrast on LED versions should be much better. LEDs are way brighter now and less power hungry so I think 100 LEDs on a screen would have all the advantages of a plasma.

They exist, but theyre really expensive.
the samsung series 9 and the LG90 are both LED backlit, the xbr8 is and possibly xbr9. There are also LED DLP's but thats rear projection sets.

How about comparing a Ferrari to a Chevy?

fyi, I saw a blue convertible Ferrari this Sunday. It had a sweet sound.

If you have the money, buy it. If you can't afford it and will only be asking us "WHY DID YOU GUYS TELL ME [insert what the BBS told you here]!?!?!?!? " later, then do nothing. See the difference. FEEL the difference. BUY the difference.

I'd pick a LARGER TV any day, but if I could afford an LCD, I'd buy it.

Let me throw this in: DLP is not the top-of-the-line technology, but it allows you to get a BIGGER SCREEN for less money than LCD and PLASMA. Even better, if it is 1080p, it's even better.

    BUMPED

So I didn't want to start another thread about HDTV's but I need help smh..

I've been wanting a 1080p 120hz set for a while. I've always like that funny soap opera effect the refesh rate does for BR movies. I also heard it works great for sports.

There is a great deal today on Amazon for this: link

I was wondering if I will get that "fake looking" movie effect with any 120hz TV or just those Sony "Motion-flow"/ Samsung "AMP"/

    thanks in advance.

Didn't want to start a thread either...

I have a Samsung 50" plasma. I keep seeing these red dots come show up during certain shows. Strangely, it seems to happen the most when I'm watching the Daily Show. Is it something with shows that use a green screen that my tv just isn't processing right?

I'd hit the av forums if I were you. When I was debating what plasma to buy I vaguely remember reading something about dots with the Samsung models.

Yes, you will get the "soap opera effect" with any 120hz LCD. It really bothered me when watching movies, but if you like it then any 120hz will do

I have a Samsung 50" plasma also, and it has one red blinking dot in the middle of my TV.

I barely notice it though except when I see the half second of "black" in between commercials.

I'm looking for a 42" LED 120hz TV. Done tons of research at amazon, tiger direct, conns, and frys...and slickdeals.

    Can you guys suggest anything?
