I know I'm going to get bombarded with responses like "bud light" and "schlitz malt liquor bull" and "your mom" But I'm going to post some of the last few good beers I tried and some comments, and perhaps some other people might have the same: Baron's Black Wattle Superior Wattle Seed Ale From Australia, no less - it's a vaguely chocolately beer with something called wattle in it, which i guess is some plant or root. Pretty good. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/13165/32007 Uerige Alt Altbiers come from Dusseldorf - it's a strange tasting kind of style. It's an ale which is odd for German beers, which tend to be lagers/weizens/bocks/pilsners/dunkels. I don't know what to think about it, but I guess if I was in dusseldorf I'd drink it. It's sort of ligter than your usual ale. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1923/6355 Julius Echter Hefe Weissbier Dunkel Dunkel-weiss style is a dark wheat beer - hard to find in the US and not even all that common in germany compared to the others - but I don't know why because they are awesome. This one was no exception. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/176/616 Kira Wit brewed by the people who bring you Delirium Tremens and Delirium Nocturnum It's a Belgian white beer which tastes and looks a lot more like a German hefeweizen. Pretty good. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/180/37345 Discuss.
When thinking about German beers, I don't think Düsseldorf. München, yes. Speaking of dark wheat beers, might I suggest Franziskaner's Hefe-Weisse Dunkel. Pretty good if you like bock style stuff, and of course it adheres to the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516
Texxx - there is a plethora of regional styles originating outside of Bayerische and Franconia - Kolsch's, Alts, Dortmunders, Kellerbiers, Berliner Weiss. In fact, bock beer, a bavarian staple actually came from Einbeck in the Northwest. texxx- a rare good call from you. It is indeed a good dunkelweizen, far superior to the regular Franziskaner, IMO
I'm having someone bring back one of my favorite beers from Australia next week, mainly because it is no longer sold here and hasn't been sold in Texas for over a decade.
your mom. actually a guy in my church brews at home. he made a wheat beer before the super bowl that was fantastic, and i'm not a big wheat beer guy. of course, that does you no good unless you also happen to know said guy.
Chimay Blue is probably my favorite but it's expensive and very alcoholic (at least it seams to be). Chimay Blue Also, don't forget good old Shiner Bock. Not as good as it used to be but it's probably my stable beer.
My favorite beer of all time. It's one of the very few drawbacks to living in Austin...not being able to get this in restaurants or find it in most stores.
Bought in a grocery store: Lone Star Bought from a beer house (like Opal Divine's): I'll try any Hefeweizen - though I've been disappointed because Live Oak's Hefeweizen hasn't been up to par lately.
Mexican Beer - Pacifico Domestic - I guess I'd have to say Sam Adams or Shiner Bock (is Fat Tire a domestic? If so, add that into the mix) Imports - Too hard to pick. I like Newcastle, Harp, and Guinness. But there are more...oh yes, there are more.
I can't say I've tried a huge selection of beers, probably 40-50 different ones in my lifetime. But I really like
