    Greetings. We are anonymous.

If you care about yourself, listen to this. If you care about others, share this. If you care about liberty, do this.

As most of you know, as of yesterday an online movement in opposition of SOPA and PIPA has commenced affecting hundreds of millions of people and their access to free information. This statement was not made to deprive you, the citizen, of information but to inform the powers that be that we are the product and we know it. Most of the sites which participated in the blackout stay alive due to advertising revenue from sponsors. These sites were willing to forgo the chance of losing this revenue to stand against bills (SOPA and PIPA) that will effectively afford the government control of how the internet is utilized and accessed by you the citizen. If you are not familiar with these bills we implore you to educate yourself. Please do not act on this ignorantly. They, the supporters of these bills, hide behind the ruse that this will effectively end piracy. This is simply not true. Piracy will live on but the government will now have control over how
information is shared. It’s really that simple. There are already effective efforts in play that effect piracy but the work load is on the aggressor. They are looking to displace this workload onto ISPs and therefore gain
a dominant control over their, the government’s, cause. If utilized properly the efforts already in play will be more than sufficient for said cause.

This generation has seen a revolutionary development in the internet. Of course, the powers that be want
to control it. Just like everything else. A simpleton will call them lazy for making it an ISP’s problem to deal with. An educated mind will see the bigger picture. Control.

This is the hard part. How do we, the collective, convince you, the product, to give up
something that you have grown to know as something you rely on? It’s simple. The gift of reason. We are very
disappointed that some of the primary opposers to these bills have decided to voice their opinion but
not act on it. We also understand the potential loss these companies could suffer being the internet giants that they are and acting on their voices. This is where you come in. You must understand that YOU are the product. Not the services that they offer to you.

Without you, Facebook is NOTHING. We can all agree that the platform that they have provided us is convenient, effective and at the very least, entertaining. BUT without you, what are they? A vacant digital
plantation of potential with no product.

Since Facebook has decided to forgo any physical participation in the efforts that they stand behind, we ask you, the user, to do it for them. Again, without you they are nothing.

We ask that starting January 22nd 2012, 48 hours before the senate votes on PIPA, you temporarily disable your Facebook account for said amount of hours. 48 to be exact.

(NOTE: When you disable your account, the information within remains intact. The next time that you log into your Facebook account, everything goes back to the way that you left it. There is nothing to lose.) Keep in mind that as this message populates and grows metaphorical legs, people will become more aware.
Awareness equals power. Remove this power from them. Disable your account at any given moment between now and the 24th to possess the element of surprise. Trust us when we say, you will not starve as a direct result of taking this action. You will not lose your family as a direct result of taking this action. You will not lose your job as a direct result of taking this action. Your life will remain as it currently stands. However you will make the point that they, the advertisers and digital plantation owners, are nothing without you, the product. Use Facebook for the amazing avenue that it is to spread this message. The irony is so thick you can touch it. After you have engaged the cause, at whatever juncture that is, even if it’s 48 hours before the senate vote, utilize email, text, IM services to spread the message. Again. The message is simple.

WE ARE THE PRODUCT AND WE KNOW IT. STOP PIRACY. NOT LIBERTY.

Haven't been on Facebook in 3 months. Not ready to delete my account yet. Because of privacy concerns, I only confirmed about 15 friends, most of them family.

I've permanently deleted my Facebook. I realized a few months ago that there is now an option, instead of just "disabling" your account. I can totally see why so many have it, but it's just not for me. Facebook will get you caught up lol

They're about to make another change to the each page showing an historical timeline of your activity there. I've been on Facebook for quite a while now and have used it to reconnect with quite a few old friends....but I think I'm done.

I depend on Facebook too much to disable or delete it.

How else would I know that it's raining outside right now if not for all the people putting it in their status updates?

What ever happened with Anonymous threatening the Zetas for kidnapping one of their own in Mexico? They gave them a deadline to release him or their information would be given up right? So what happened?

I wanted to talk trash about Anonymous here on how they threatened so many sites and people but never shut down anything for more then a few hours. And that they are not taken serious?
But what if they get angry, delete my internet connection, hack my bank account and release all my personal information because they are THAT awesome? So I won't say anything bad about them.
    Don't ***** with Anonymous, guys.
