schedule fifty paitients to see one doctor in thirty minutes. I just came from the doctor's office, appointment at 9:00AM. I got there on time and left at 11:15 only having given a blood sample and seeing the doctor for five minutes (it was a follow up). Unfreakinbelievably irritating.

The funniest part was I was in the little eximination room for about an hour and fifteen minutes waiting. It was near the nurse's station. After about 50 minutes I walk out to use the restroom and their all standing there like they are gonna jump on me if I try to leave.

I think they do it because they expect no-shows, short appointments like your own, and so on.

Find a new doctor, they're not all like that.. I had the same problem with a new doctor I tried because he was close to the office, I never went back.. Some people just accept as a fact when visiting the doctor, but they're not all like this, some actually do a good job of getting you in and out in a timely manner..

MY WALLET'S GONE!!!! MY WALLET'S GONE!!!!

We were at the doctor just to give blood samples last week. We waited for about 45 minutes for them to see us and it only took 2 minutes once we got in.

we went to see my fiance's new doctor; I had to skip a class in order to fit it in my schedule at all. The appointment was for 1:00. We got there at 12:40, filled out the paperwork, didn't get seen until about 2:30, and then found out they didn't have his medical records like they were supposed to, so they couldn't do anything. The desk staff didn't want to be bothered and hid behind a window that you couldn't see through very well and weren't supposed to knock on.

I did get a lot of papers graded, at least. Most people don't even bring anything to do and they just sit there watching TV, usually tuned to something you would not have chosen, and then it looks "weird" by comparison just to use your time wisely. I wouldn't have been able to stand it if I hadn't had something to do. But still, it inconvenienced my schedule and was all for nothing. Why do they schedule it that way??? There can't be that many no-shows after all.

My family switched to a Doctor about 8 years ago that had been in practice a long time. At the time, he only took new patients as referrals and now he takes no new patients. He says he has about 5 years until retirement.

When I go in, I'm usually one of only a couple people in the waiting room and he usually sees me within 15 minutes of getting there.

Find an old rich Doctor that doesn't take a lot of patients and get someone to refer you!

Doctors are like any other service provider. Keep switching until you find the one that fits your needs.

Coincidence! I just went to the doctor this morning as well. I was on time, but I waited for 30 minutes to get a room, another 15 for him to come see me, and then I finally left at 10:30. Slightly better, but completely aggravating to say the least!

But I'll just sit there and accept it because he's one of the best doctors in my area and I'm willing to wait - just maybe not that long.

I took my two kids to their allergy/asthma specialist yesterday for a routine checkup. The appointment was for 2:30. We got there at 2:15. I don't think we got out of the waiting room until 3:30 or 4. By the time the doctor saw us we finally got out of there after 5..

A couple of years ago, I went to a local Dr that was recommended by my next door neighbor. My appt was at 10:00. I didn't even see the Dr until 10:45. Although there was only one other patient in the waiting room, there was a neverending stream of drug reps that seemed to take priority over anyone else.

Needless to say, I never went back.

if youre only getting paid $25 a visit...

you have to realize they have to pay the salary for nurses, secretaries, and office managers. then on top of that, you have rent, utilities and liability insurance. not to mention taxes...

they have to squeeze in a lot of patients to cover overhead and then have enough to take home...

Why do all the doctors that have a TV in the waiting room tune it to either Faux Noise or Looping Entertainment Gossip News?

I haven't been to a doctor like in 7 years, but I go to the vet for my dog quite a bit. Even there they make you wait about 40 minutes, despite only 3-4 other people in the waiting area.

I did an internship at a medical clinic last year and found the answer to this. Companies actually pay for all the equipment and labor involved in setting those up as long as the clinics tune the TVs to those specific channels.

Just to clear up any misconception, drug reps rarely talk to the Dr and if they do, it's for 30 seconds while the Dr. is walking down the hall. Primarily the drug rep is simplying dropping off samples which doesn't require the time of the Dr. So the wait time has nothing to do with drug reps ...it's the Dr's scheduling that is the prob.

ANYWAY, I walked out on a Dr appoint a few months ago. I waited, with my 2 year old, for 45 minutes and then got seated in a room. Nurse asked a couple questions and then they moved us back to the waiting room. I waited 15 minutes and left.

LabCorp twice scheduled my pregnant wife for a glucose test only to have us sit around for an hour before informing us they did not have the right paperwork. Did I mention this happened twice?

To take glucose test you cannot eat or drink for 12 hours before the appointment. Did I mention my wife was pregnant? She started crying the second time it happened.

I don't know if all Dr's are like this, but this one actually came out to meet each and every one of the reps, scoring numerous doo-dads along the way. He was even going to lunch with the last one!

I couldn't eat twelve hours before this appointment, didn't want to sound like to whinny though. to this doctor's credit, the first visit wasn't bad as far as waiting around, although in the first visit I had blood work, talked to him twice, and a stress test. in that one I may have waited a total of 45min, not good, but not to bad.

man has anyone done a stress test? I went about 12 min before they got my heart to 150

They do, and it's sick what goes on. Those little pens and notepads you see with names of medications on them are only the tip of the iceberg. They give bigger gifts than that, as well as fancy meals and even vacations for the doctors, all in hopes of, or as rewards for, buying their product. This advertising expense raises the already high cost of medication for regular people with medical conditions who struggle to make ends meet. In fact, it probably discourages good people from the medical profession because many potential healers would not enjoy dealing with sales reps all day, and would choose a different career.

One of my students gave a very enlightening presentation on this. She worked in a doctor's office, and came in with a big grocery sack full of drug company freebies and dumped it out on the table. Notepads, pens, calculators, calendars, stress balls. Apparently that was a small sample of the stuff that was overflowing their office. At the end of the presentation, she left it there and told everybody to take what they wanted. There was plenty more where that came from.
