Anna Nicolle Smith to Go to Trial -- Sept 22, In Houston

    Area briefs -- Ex-centerfold's suit goes to trial Sept. 22

    Former Playboy centerfold Anna Nicole Smith's fight to receive part of her late husband's billion-dollar estate is slated to begin Sept. 22 in Harris County Probate Court. Harris County Probate Judge Mike Wood said the trial likely will last about 10 to 12 weeks. It will take about a week to pick the jury, and opening statements will be given Sept. 28, Wood said.

    Smith married J. Howard Marshall II after they met in a Houston topless club. He died at age 90 in 1995 after being married to Smith 14 months. Smith contends she should receive part of the oil tycoon's $1.6 billion estate. Her husband's sons, J. Howard Marshall III of Los Angeles and Pierce Marshall, have laid claim to the part of the fortune and will be battling each other and Smith.

    As a surviving spouse, it seems like she should be entitled to something, but I doubt there is anyone in the world who would describe her marriage as anything other than a sham and an attempt to get her hands on the fortune.

    If it were my decision, I wouldn't give her any of the money. She just didn't pay enough dues (wasn't with him long enough before his death) as the Gold Digging Wife to make me think she deserves a large share.

    She looks like a blonde, well endowed stripper. Not the sharpest tool in the shed. She's origionally from Mexia, Texas, 40 miles east of Waco. She's done Playboy and some really bad movies.

    She shouldn't get a thing. All she ever was to that 90 year old is a high-priced w****. I'm sure he more than payed for those services while he was still alive. At one time, she may have been good enuff looking to put in Playboy. Now, she is just plain gross to look at. Her acting is just plain awful and, of course, all they really wanted to do was get her naked.

    I remember Howard Stern had her on and... talking about a duntz airhead. She must have taken like 5 valium before the show started because she was slurring her words and just plain acting stupid. If I were Howard, I would have biyatch-slapped her. It was worse than Farah Fawcett on the Late Show with Letterman.

    Now, she has let herself go, thinks she doesn't have to work for a living, and wants eazy money. Um...excuse me biyatch...you let your looks go. Modeling is all about looks... you either have it or you don't. You lost it so you better find another line of work you skank. Maybe she needs to go back to where it all began...waitressing in Mexia for Dairy Queen. Just don't call her Ms. Queen...she might want all your money.

    Actually, she has gotten back into shape and appearently gotten clean & sober. I am not a big fan but I have seen some recent pics and she does look decent.

    However, I agree that she should only get a small settlement and the bulk of the old guy's fortune should go to his family and not her.

    Man, if the guy wrote her into his will for sex, he should be able to leave his money to anyone he wants.

    They had an arrangement. Arranged marriages have existed for years. Why so provincial? If he got sex and she got money and marriage was how they did it, so what. It was his money after all.

    I was under the impression that he didn't write her into his will. But even if he did, there is the issue of the man's mental capacity at the time he changed his will (if he did change it at all.)

    Everybody thinks that an old guy is crazy if he decides to leave his money to a woman he spent only a short time with at the end of his life.

    Look, if you are 90, not far from death and you have the chance to live and have sex with a beautiful woman knowing that your sizeable fortune is the only reason, I wouldn't consider you crazy. The guy wanted to live out his remaining years with the woman of his choice. It's an arrangement. That's it. He wasn't nuts just because he chose that.. In fact, I'd be willing to bet that there are a whole lot of guys who would've traded places with him.

    I wasn't saying that he was crazy for taking up residence with Anna Nicole Smith. I'm just saying that his mental capacity could be an issue as to whether he legally changed his will to put Anna Nicole in it (which I don't know if he did or not). Given that the guy's son had Power of Attorney over his father's affairs (no pun intended), we can assume that there was some question as to whether the elder Marshall did have the mental capacity (or legal capacity) to make changes to his will to include Anna.

    Of course, according to the press reports, Marshall left his estate to one of his sons and didn't leave anything for Anna Nicole. So really, it's Anna Nicole who wants the apparent wishes of J. Howard Marshall II put aside so she can get half his estate.
