everyone knows she's just one big hype machine. her "work" is about as professional and credible as the national inquirer. the fact that she gets put on news television stations (fox ) on even semi-serious programs is absurd. i'd definitely hit it though. probably pretty kinky.
Would you prefer Ann Coulter's lack of knowledge and facts are exposed? I don't know. I didn't make the headline up, but I wouldn't mind putting disclaimer in the initial post with a headline like the one mentioned above.
You do yourself a great disservice by defending, even in passing, blowhards like Coulter. There are numerous thoughtful, intelligent conservatives out there...Coulter ain't one of em.
Technically, she is correct. While Canada did not directly send any troops to Vietnam along with the US, they were part of the International Control Commission (ICC) which did send troops. 56 of the several thousand Canadian troops in Vietnam died in the war. They also supplied the US military with millions of dollars of war materials including ammunition, grenades, aircraft, chemical defoliants, navigation systems, weapons release computers, artillery shells, rocket warheads, and demolition materials. I suggest you do some research before posting something this silly. I would post links for references, but a quick google search turned up hundreds of articles on the subject.
Technically she was incorrect. Canada did not send troops to Vietnam, to fight in the war, or help the U.S. and Ann Coulter was incorrect in saying so. They did participate in the ICC as you mentioned which was not there to help the U.S. in it's war effort, but to determine if ceasefires were being violated. That is not near the same thing and does not back up Coulter's claim that Canada as a good ally to the U.S. sent troops to Vietnam. Supplying materials, is not the same as sending troops. While Canada did have an indirect troop involvement, is not the same as the U.S.' direct involvement in Vietnam, Iraq or the other nations that were directly involved. It is also important to note that most of Canada's manufacturing economy at the time was owned by America. So it is really no surprise that they helped supply the U.S. I suggest that you do more research about the ICC before posting something this silly.
Please highlight the statement in the transcript that says they sent troops to fight the war or to help the US. From the transcript segment posted, she simply says that Canada sent troops to Vietnam, which is true and reinforced by your comments below. If there is a part of the transcript missing, then post it. Otherwise, you are putting words in her mouth or severly misinterpreting the above transcript. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vietnam_War states "The American fatal casualties include at least 56 Canadian citizens. It is difficult to estimate the exact number because some Canadians crossed the border to volunteer for service under false pretenses whereas others were permanent residents living in the United States who either volunteered or were drafted." http://perc.ca/PEN/1992-11/collins2.html "The Canadian ICC contingent twice offered legitimation for U.S. troop intervention and air war over North Vietnam; it furnished the U.S. with strategic intelligence about the location of enemy troop movements; and it acted as messengers by relaying threats issued from the American military." Correct, but you dont supply war matrials for a non-ally. 2.5 Billion dollars worth of supplies So now you are saying they did have a troop involvement? Justify it any way you want. Canada is a country, companies located within that country supplied material, therefore Canada supplied material. I am not a Ann Coulter fan, but the arguement you attempted was weak and partially correct at best. Definately not a clobbering.
Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn, Fb and Sam getting SMOKED trying to bust Ann Coulter, whoever that is. Besides - Australians, Canadians, Austrians - same thing, right?
I'm not the one misinterpreting the transcript. Clearly Ann Coulter is the one insuinating that the troops were sent to help the U.S. fight vietnam. Not me. Actually I feel the argument you put forward was partially correct at best. The argument I put forward was accurate. Ann Coulter is still wrong Ann Coulter put forward the idea that because Canadians were such a good ally that they sent troops to Viet Nam. But that isn't the case at all. Canada didn't send troops as a nation to Viet Nam in the American war effort, like COULTER suggested. She was wrong, she was called on it, and despite Canada being part of an international group, the nation of Canada didn't enlist their troops to help the U.S. fight the N. Vietnamese.
If only the Canadians had actually sent troops to help the American War effort as Coulter suggested that might be true.
Okay, no troops but thanks for the "supplies" and the "intel!" Chortling over a mis-statement about a 40 YO war... Somebody call the Swift Boat Vets!
I actually agree with you that it is of little significance, except that Coulter gets asked on News shows frequently for some reason.
So we're left with the startling reality that Canadians are NOT our allies.... gasp! What I want to know is who thought Glynch was an ally?
and what the host blantantly stated was completely incorrect. canada did send troops to vietnam. no place in the transcript does either side say in support of the u.s. war effort. i guess you didn't understand that when rvolkin said it the first time. get over it...you lost this one.
