This Animal Precinct show tears me up. I can't BELIEVE people are so cruel. Sometimes my wife walks in and I'm all teary eyed about some poor mongrel on his last legs. Luckily, they filter out most of the failures, and many of the animals survive... but I can't help thinking that I'm just another dork that watches weirdo shows. Please tell me that this show is different. Please tell me that this show isn't just a spin-off of COPS. Animal Precinct == celebrating the life of the little guy, right? COPS == wallowing in the ills of humanity?
I can't even watch it. That's how bad I am. It kills me. I don't know what show it was today, but they removed (I believe) two-hundred-and-something cats from a guys house (not making up the number). The cats just basically lived in their own filth, and never really had any contact with humans. They were going to put all of them to sleep. The guy who collected them had mental problems. The whole thing was just plain sad. Here's another "TraJ is a softy" fact: There's a new commercial (although I can't exactly remember for what). It's a bunch of dogs at the pound. The lady takes pictures of them (or something) and posts them on the internet (or something) and it shows a little kid coming to pick up this big ol' dog with gray hair around it's mouth. Here come the tears again. Am I just getting old? I'm only going to be 32 next month.
LOL. I think it's just being raised on Old Yeller. I totally understand. My wife was wondering about me one morning when I was sobbing in my cereal, staring at these poor bony dogs people refused to feed. I just do not understand people. Earlier today they showed the episode where a guy comes out of his building, w/ some weird contraption of belts tied together (3 inches too tight for the dog's neck diameter), and a gaping wound on the poor guy's neck. A HUGE SLASH. This was after the officers had collected two female puppies, so starved, that they had begun to gnaw on the emaciated/dead carcass of their little brother. I should stop while I'm ahead. I suddenly remembered the shepherd that was covered in ticks and near death from a show a few days ago. You can see into the souls of these dogs when they look at the aspca officers as friends.... and it gets me everytime.
Ugh. Don't feel bad. Both Jeff and I found ourselves crying at that commercial last week. I think it's designed to turn anyone with even half a heart into a sobbing mass of goo. Although I'm a huge animal lover, I rarely watch Animal Planet for the very reason you guys have been discussing. Hell, just the ads for Animal Precinct get me upset.
