Angels suspend TV analyst Hudler after drug arrest
    Sept. 4, 2003

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Anaheim Angels television analyst Rex Hudler was suspended indefinitely by the team Thursday after his airport arrest last weekend for investigation of possession of mar1juana and drug paraphernalia.

He violated company policy and will be replaced during upcoming telecasts by Jose Mota of the club's Spanish radio team, the team said.

Hudler, 42, was arrested at Kansas City International Airport on Sunday and released after posting bond.

His agent, Joel Wolf, wasn't immediately available for comment.

Hudler, a utility player for the Angels from 1994-96, is in his fifth season as the team's TV analyst. He played 10 years in the minor leagues before making it to the majors and wound up playing professionally for 21 years with 18 teams.

    Unfreakinbelievable:eek:

He's a Jim Rome Jungle favorite...I wonder if he'll mention it. If he has any kind of sack he will.

    Doubtful.

Kids, don't carry your dope in your carryon bag.

Didn't he learn anything from Jeremy Giambi? Or Damon Stoudamire?

    Before last night:

"Dude...I love that guy. Hud is a great jungle guy...solid. Great individual."

    After last night:

"Hud-ja-blunt! Well, well, well. Getting caught with pot is NEVER fresh, Hud-meister."

    Rome blows.

Why am I not suprised. IMO, Hudler has always seemed like a toker.

    Has Rome mentioned the incident?

Agreed. There are worse crimes than this. Besides, some of the people who you or I may think are the straightest arrows alive smoke the ganj.

Rome laid the hammer down on him, and as well he should. The people saying "don't condemn Hudler, there are worst crimes, don't be to hard on him", I GUARANTEE that if Grant Hill or Tim Duncan had been caught with pot they would have been TRASHED. Hudler is no different then anyone else. Rasheed Wallace is, for the most part, a good guy off the court. I could be wrong, but I never heard him get into any trouble off the court, he has a temper on the court, but that's about it. He got caught with weed off the court and got trashed. Same thing for Stoudamire. Granted they're repeat offenders now, but when it first went down those guys weren't cut slack. Neither should Hudler. We don't know whether these guys are good guys or not, and Hudler is no different then the number of athletes who were hammered for making similar mistakes.
