    This is a clip video of an Air Force C-130 releasing flares to repel heat seeking missiles. The pattern formed by these "decoys" is how they got their name... watch for the angel wings....
    Because maneuvers were usually in remote areas and probably over water, the general public does not get to see these exercises.

    Thats a trip my dad was a loadmaster on a C-130, those angel wings are a little creepy looking -- especially if it was a Spector gun ship and you saw your missle vear off into a giant smokey apparition.

    I've gotten to see an A-10 unloading cluster bombs and firing it's main cannon from about 2.5 klicks away but it's nothing compared to that.

    Do a google search for ac130_gunshipmed.wmv - it's pretty incredible - camera view from the plane, with audio from the pilots/gunners/air controllers, as it does it's thing in Afghanistan.

    it's a big file - 5+ megs - but worth a look.
