I know some people have a very strong opinion on this but i do not want to turn this into a apple vs google vs microsoft flame war... I just want people's opinions on the actual phone os. I personally have the most experience with android. I have a droid rooted with 2.2 and it is overclocked over 1 ghz and it is buttery smooth. I have some experience with iphone 4 since my father has it... In my personal opinion android is more robust and has the ability to just do more while the iphone is more "neat" and simpler to use. My experience with windows phone 7 is zero but from videos and articles it seems like it will be a solid competitor.
droid rooted with 2.2 and it is overclocked over 1 ghz and it is buttery smooth. Haha those two don't go together, and before you counter I've rooted and OC'ed my neighbors personally so I have experience. Also having owned a Nexus One and G2, I can tell you what buttery smooth is (or isn't for that matter). Right now I'm on the iPhone 4, I'll come back to Android soon enough but I'm glad I took a break, it will make me appreciate Android more when I come back and it will be a far more mature OS. Android needs great games more than anything, then it will pass iOS. Also having purchased the Nexus on release day, the Nexus S is a far less impressive upgrade/device, I'll wait on cutting-edge technology (dual core).
well i guess your expereince is different... because the droid's cpu overclocked to 1ghz with froyo is smooth... atleast on my phone.
I don't know how android is so popular. It seems so damned clunky and hacked together. Webos for me until the last pre is dead, thanks.
If I had an open contract, I'd get a Nexus S. That phone looks so bad ass, and now with Gingerbread coming out... that would be the icing on the cake. iOS is also great. I love my jailbroken iPhone, there isn't really anything that's missing on either iOS or Android for me.. both have what I need so I would go with either. It comes down to the phone hardware, and most of these phones are closely similar with the competition now that's going on. Problem with getting a Nexus S, have to get it unlocked for AT&T, or you can get it for $200 with a 2 year contract with T-Mobile. The other thing also is if you get it on AT&T, you won't get 3G bands, but they might come out with a version just for AT&T 3G. I'm just waiting for AT&T to get on LTE like Verizon... and then AT&T and Verizon will be the fastest in terms of 4G speeds. Coverage has never been a problem for me with AT&T in the Houston area (San Antonio coverage sucks though).
Ummm except that's not true. http://nextbigfuture.com/2010/06/verizon-4g-lte-vs-sprint-wimaz-vs-hspa.html Just got mytouch 4g and I've tried it against other peoples phones, long story short my phone pwns the heck out of everyone else. I surf normal on my phone and I can hit 2mb dl on speed test inside buildings.
I have a chance to get the Nexus S, but I'm passing on it because of the MyTouch 4G. The Nexus S not having HSPA+ is a deal-killer. I can't begin to tell you how disappointed I am in that. But I love the MyTouch 4G so much we'll live. I can wait until Feb or Mar for the next step up in Android phones (I'll be giving the MyTouch to my son. He's the one who has the problem waiting). T-Mobile's so-called 4G may not be true 4G, but it blows 3G out of the water. Being able to tether it to my laptop while on the road at good speeds is a grand slam!
How was is that not true? The chart you provided does not show speeds for LTE, but it does go on to say that LTE is a lot faster. So in reality his statement was true because he is waiting for AT&T to get onto LTE, and once they do they (along with verizon) will have the fastest 4g
it's sad that webos isn't even in the discussion anymore. epocrates announcing that that they were leaving permanently is a bigger stab in the heart that most folks realize. banking on developer support to pick up when more devices are released is so dumb...really, really dumb (cute antoine pic). probably the best flowing mobile os out there. i'm typing this on a "buttery-smooth" rooted evo w/warm rom, btw. yes... it is indeed very smooth. imo, it's like this: ios- best for useability (sp?). caveman quote goes here. android- better to hack webos- combines both of the above wp7- haven't touched it don't get me wrong... this rooted evo can do some amazing stuff, but webos can do it better. what's the use of not having buttons if you're not going to have gestures anyhow? hopefully the android ui will improve in gingerbread.
I'm going to go with IOS being the best, but I also work for the company that makes it, so that makes me a lot bit biased. I honestly don't feel like writing specifics here, but here's the short version: Android is great for consumers (no experience with WP7, but it's still based on WM6.5), but in the business world, you need IOS or BBOS. Come to the store (not today or tomorrow -- I won't be there) if you want the nuanced version.
I love my iPhone but business (IT at least) hates IOS because you can't control it well. It's becoming tolerated because it is so wide spread.
ha, T-mobile? 4g? you mean HSPA + that works off their existing (nonexisting) 3g towers? 2 megabytes? I hope that's on 3g because when I was with AT&T, I was getting 1.5-2.2 megs consistently on their 3g network. With sprint its around 0.9-2.0 megs, and with Sprint 4g, I get this around the heights..
You do realize that ATT has hspa+ on 85% of their network...by the end of this month? Good with that Tmobile coverage......ugghh
