I usually check out the box scores and keep up with stats fairly well. I have been surprised by the Golden State Warriors center Andris Biendris. Some of his numbers are pretty astonishing. He is shooting 72.9% from the filed through eleven games, fifth in the league in blocked shots at 2.2 a game, and his last 3 games grabbed 13, 16, and 12 boards. Any of you GSW/NBA experts know much about his game? Who is he comparable to? Do you see him giving Yao any problems? Thanks.
The reason he has such a high shooting % is that the GSW scheme opens the floor up with four shooters and slashers and biedrins waits for extremely high % shots to put in. He still lacks offensive polish and misses uncontested layups but there's no doubt he hustles and has a fast second jump - causing a lot of tips and off rebounds. Even though he looks skinny, the guy somehow has a really wiry strong frame (think dolph lundren) and holds position well. His defensive is very active and aware but I don't think he'll give Yao problems yet.
yeah i haven't seen the guy play much, but his defense is reputed to be quite good. last year it seems he had a lot of trouble with fouls, but he's been able to keep out of foul trouble this year and be very effective. no wonder don nelson likes him so much.
Whee: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/mu.../gallery.nba.bustingloose.west/content.2.html Actually, they cut out the byline of the caption writer. Ah, well. Love Biedrins, have since his rookie year. He doesn't miss uncontested layups. I'd kill a puppy to get him on the Bulls.
He is is the best fantasy sleeper center this year so far. 10-12 rebounds and 2 blocks a night. He is better than Bynum and Darko, the failed sleepers.
Biedrins has arguably the best hands among the centers in this league. If you think Yao has good hands, wait till you see Beans'. On another hand, his free throw is more flap than Shaq's, although it goes in a little more often.
Quick, lanky guy. Nellie loves him for his energy. He's got good hands tool. Adonald Foyle not playing much because of him. Compares to AK47 pretty well.
I picked him up on Salary Cap fantasy several days ago and his value has just risen every day and his production is great. Got him for so cheap, its a double win situation for me.
I had him on my fantasy team, but dropped because he doesn't get enough touches. The Nelson offense goes thru the guards, so Biedrins isn't going to get may shots. He won't be able to handle Yao defensively.
I got him in my league, he was a reserve for the first 2 weeks and since Martin is out, i put him in ... He is having some great games for me, some even better than my 3-4 round picks.
Monta Ellis out of nowhere. He's still available in one of my leagues but I'd have to drop bibby and I already have baron davis. hard to say how long he can keep it up. Bibby is a proven product but Ellis is just on fire.
In my Yahoo public fantasy league, despite some serious f-k ups like spending a high pick on Diaw and Channing Frye, drafting Steve Novak and Rafer Alston and Alonzo Mourning, I've managed to cut the dead weight, and add via free agency in the first two weeks: Kevin Martin Deron Williams Monta Ellis Grant Hill Andris Bedrins not surprisingly I went from last place after week 1 (and most of those guys cleared waivers) to first place today.
Monta had a dunk over Barbosa last night that was dooooooope. He was awesome against the Suns, but he cramped up near the end and Phoenix pulled away.
if you play fantasy basketball religiously You knew who Ellis was from the last month of last season. I picked him up early and he's really paying off.
