Interesting development. He's actually taking less money to go to Portland, apparently, than what San Antonio finally offered. Sounds like DA was more bitter than anyone knew.

He wants a sign and trade for more money. I would guess, if he doesn't get it, that he will walk away from Portland too. If the Blazers and Spurs do the rumored S&T of Bonzi Wells for Anderson and the Spurs then sign Bowen and Jackson, they'll be better than last year.

What was the rumored S&T? I would rather hold on to Wells if I were Portland. Wells has range and can post up. Anderson is more of a slasher shooter type. Wells going to the Spurs would improve their team and I rather not have that happen.

bonzi is a big, big, bruising guard...not a creating perimeter player. the spurs need a creating wing player. besides, bonzi's coming off of a serious injury and may be virtually untradeable.

and according to the SA Express News yesterday, the spurs say they "have not" gotten any sign and trade offers to their liking for DA.

the spurs, undoubtedly, will NOT be better than last year. they still have no point guard to speak of (antonio is not a point). signing jackson or bowen doesn't improve them much either (and that ASSuming they can sign them). steven jackson is a completely unknown quality. bowen really can't shoot. these are not players that will IMPROVE the spurs.

at best, they'll improve the defense (that's a stretch). but that's not a net gain, IMO. they are losing their perimeter creator and gaining - maybe - gaining an unknown quality and a shandn andersn clone.

the spurs are in trouble. they will NOT be better than last year. they WILL be worse.

I find this REALLY, REALLY interesting actually. Last year during the playoffs, he was on Rome and talked about Portland. He said that he could've gone to Portland or to San Antonio. And he chose SA, and he was so happy he did. Now, he goes to the city he was thankful not to have chosen? Doesn't make much sense, IMO.

Spurs better keep their hands off Shandon Anderson unless we decide we don't need him...

Portland is a joke. If he cared about winning he went to the wrong place that's for sure. HAHA TheCat, that is HILARIOUS!

According to some other posters on that BBS, Derek had a 2 PM deadline to take or leave a 6 year deal worth more money than the Blazers offer.

Derek showed his loyalty by giving the nod to the Blazers.

Derek's agent is also the agent of Samaki Walker who signed with the Lakers. Sound familiar...one agent, one team, multiple players, new teams.

Portland is ridiculous, I was floored when I found this out. They have so many quality players now that they can trade 3 stars for 1 superstar. Don't bet on history repeating, Portland will be up there next year regardless of Anderson.

Wow--what a mess! You may get that pat on the back Shandon if the Spurs don't have something in the works as a back-up plan. Either they've got something up their sleeve that they think will be better or DA really screwed them.

And what the heck is DA doing? He doesn't get what he wants so,to spite the Spurs, he locks himself in long term for less money? Unless a S&T is worked out,why do a long term? And if you're taking the 4.5 exception, was Portland your best option?

Who gets the shorter end of the stick here, DA or the Spurs? There has to be something else coming down. This is too dumb on both their parts otherwise.

I still say--any way we can dump the Wizard on the Spurs? Quick while they may be off guard.

I don't know how the Spurs will recover from losing their 2nd leading scorer...

"[Anderson's agent] said Anderson probably will sign for the Blazers' mid-level salary-cap exception of $4.5 million. That amount is granted to teams that are over the $42.5 million cap."

Sounds like if there was going to be a S&T, it would involve the Blazers overpaid garbage, definitely not anyone of any real value like Bonzi Wells.

"I'm not going back to San Antonio," Anderson said in a report on the San Antonio Express-News Web site Friday. "I waited three weeks for them to negotiate with me, and then all of a sudden they give me a deadline."

So the Spurs have lost Sean Elliot, Derek Anderson, Samaki Walker, and Avery Johnson, and they've yet to add anything.

    Niiiiiiice offseason...

He better not re-sign with the Spurs now, because the Spurs media, which ADORED Anderson all damn year, is now bashing him.

    BGM,

Believe me, there's no way Anderson will sign for the 4.5 million. He's way too greedy for that. He's just saying that to try and force the Spurs into a sign and trade, because if they called his bluff, I have a feeling he might have a "change of heart" next week. If the Spurs don't get Wells, they'll get Steve Smith, or some quality player.

And by the way, out of that group of players you listed, Derek Anderson was the only one they wanted to keep, and we've yet to see what they get in a sign and trade.
