Ever since Brian Hill and other coaches have been fired from the outside before being fired by the organization I have become sensitive to calling for coaches heads since these people are people and no matter how much they are paid they are people like you and me. But enough is enough and its time for a change. Capers has done well and I think laid a good foundation for this team to build upon and he should be thought of when we get to the playoffs 3 years from now, but now it is time for a change. If Texans Brass don't see that yet, just wait till next week against the Steelers when we get pounded even worse than we did against the Bills and the boo's and the mass exodus of fans begins at Halftime. That being said for new coaches I think we should look at a few names below: 5 Names would really be good... Jimmy Johnson - Great guy to turn around a team and get them all in the same direction. He also is very solid in his ways and is proven which we would really need if we need a new coach. He also knows that the owner and GM will not take credit as Jones did to him unjustly. Bob Stoops - I know...I am a Horn by heart, but this guy can really coach and if he gets a solid staff I think he really will be able to get the job done....This is also a possibility with OU's recent issues and the fact that AP could leave after another year. Jerry Gray - Would be great due to his ties to Houston and Texas...He would stress Defense which is what it seems McNair and company want and also we would be able to keep the 3-4 that we have pursued since 2002. Pete Carroll - He has proven himself at USC and assuming they win another National Championship there will be less to prove from a Collegiate aspect. Jeff Fisher – This guy will either leave or be fired unjustly by Bud. He can come back to Houston and have a great owner and GM and use this platform to win again. He also is a tough coach and has done well with his lack of resources. Honorable Mentions: Gene Chizik, Jim Tressell, Tommy Tubberville, Mickey Andrews, Randy Shannon
#1 - I've never been a Dom Capers fan, and I believe the clock is ticking on his tenure as we speak. #2 - a big HELL NO to JJ and PC. Jerry Gray will make a fantastic NFL head coach one day.
1.) jimmy johnson is a (crack)pipe-dream. 2.) bob stoops would be OUTSTANDING (a. the Texans would win. b. the longhorns would win.) 3.) i'm much more concerned about the offense. 4.) pete isn't going anywhere. 5.) fisher isn't going anywhere. i don't really have too much to add here, but stoops probably wouldn't take the job...unfortunately.
Of the coaches you mention, the only ones I would consider are Jerry Gray and Jeff Fisher. I would rather have a coach with a lot of NFL experience instead of Stoops. Hopefully Jimmy Johnson and Pete Carroll won't make the mistake of coming back to the NFL.
I would say no to Pete Carroll, he did about as much as Capers has done in the pros, he is a much better college coach.
You can count on this...the next coach for the Texans will not be a defensive minded coach. I don't think Capers is on the hot seat, but Palmer deffinalty is. I highly doubt any big time college football coach is going to take a pay cut to take over for a struggling pro team.
I think Jerry Gray is going to be an excellent head coach. If the Texans get him next season I'm pretty sure they would want him to have a offensive coordinator who would run a more open style of offense.
Jerry Grey wants to be the head coach at UT. If the oppurtunity comes up before he gets a head coach job, he will jump at it.
Careful. Lately there have been some great college coaches who failed in the pros like Steve Spurrier, Butch Davis, Dennis Erickson, and Pete Carroll. That being said, Jerry Gray definitely deserves a look here.
I would love to have John Gruden coach the Texans. Great offensive guy but he doesn't have the players in Tampa.
And Hoke needs to be promoted to Defensive Coord. Capers and Palmer cannot co-exist, two different football philosophies. Perhaps Al Saunders could be a name to throw up there?
Pay cut? What are you talking about? Since when is Bob McNair known as a penny pincher? If a "big time" college coach wants to come to the NFL, it will be to a struggling team.
Capers and staff will stay until we lose enough games to where we can't make it to .500 this year - if we reach that point, they'll be out. If they make it to .500, they'll be brought back for another year.
You don't like Gruden? He turned that Oakland franchise around big time when he was there. I think he would be a better fit than Capers.
