[CHRON] And so it begins...the worst part of the year... Today is the first day since October when there are ZERO stories about the Rockets in the Houston Chronicle. This officially marks the beginning of the longest part of the year - the time between the end of the Rockets' season and the beginning of next season. It's hot outside. Baseball dominates the sports headlines (I don't care for baseball even when the Astros don't suck). All is wrong with the world. Sigh. Time for hibernation.
hey man, what about the comets and the wnba? the women play real basketball, none of this streetball hip hop stuff. just kidding; i TOTALLY agree with you.
I'm with you guys, I dont keep up with any other sport only the NBA and when the Rockets season is over I really dont watch the playoffs much..
in NBA draft talk should be coming in about 4 weeks ! ... then there is the July lockout (because Stern is too busy patting himself on the back to get a CBA done) ... then (hopfully) the August Free Agency season ... September hype & training camp .... October preseason ...November - Clutch City 3 (part deux) begins
i was thinking the same exact thing this morning while i was opening the sports section, looking for some stories about the rockets. and without the rockets games on television, theres absolutely nothing to watch in the evenings.
Yep. It slowly gets worse. Pretty soon, the Sunday NBA Notebook column stops for a couple months. The lockout will be the only news story after the draft, which means it'll be an even quiter off-season than normal (no player movement until the new CBA is signed). *sigh* Glad to hear that I'm not the only one that hates this. Evan
I empathize. I get meager sustenance from the playoffs and TNT's coverage. When TNT's done for the season, I'll take another hit.
My sentiments exactly. During this offseason, I hope to be able to dedicate time toward building a php web app for the Rockets game predictions.
I'm probably rare in this regard .... but I actually enjoy the hell out of the offseason, especially if the threat of the Rockets being active looms. I like hearing about scrubs working out for the Rockets because I know that no other publication cares or even reports that info. I love the draft and everything leading up to it ... that's a fun day. Then a week or two later it's free agency. For me, the worst part is late August, September and early October.... that's when it is dead. My wife also loves the offseason because she doesn't have to ask if there is a Rockets game before making any plans.
I believe, Willis25, but I would lock up that Clutch City III naming convention until we come close to winning the championship.
I think it's kind of pathetic that the series just ended, the playoffs are still going on, the JVG/ref story isn't entirely dead, and there are no stories in the Chronicle. I hate that about the Chronicle sometimes -- they just drop coverage immediately after the season ends. If they still had competition I don't think they'd be this lazy. For example, you could be damn sure that papers in other big cities would at least run a blurb about players having come in to work out.
At least with the playoffs on, you aren't subjected to those rediculous Law and Order marathons. Since they went to all Law and Order all the time, I stopped watching (except for playoff games) altogether. I used to enjoy when they played movies at night. TBS is just as bad with all Sex in the City or Brave games. I can't stay up until 1000 to catch the first movies they show.
Couldn't agree more! I have never been so pumped up about a Rockets off season as I am this year. I really think there will be more excitement than you guys expected. Let's just enjoy this break, after being on the edge of my seat every single Rockets game this season, cheering my heart out for the team with every made basket/blocked shot, and getting depressed after every loss. My nerves could use the break...
This summer is going to suck royally from a Houston sports perspective. All I have sustaining me at the moment is college baseball. That will be over by mid-June. Then it's the barren wastleland of Astros losses and football mini-camps. I think the Texans should be good this year, but those news strories won't get cranked up until mid-August or so.
I, too, could care less about any other sport. I am very much looking forward to the coming draft and the free agency season. I can't wait to see what the Rockets do to improve the team and build around McGrady and Yao.
Waiting on the Draft, Free Agent signings, and Summer Camp. I wonder if Badiane will be given a chance to make the roster.
WOW, I said the exact same thing to my dad last night. There is absolutely NOTHING exciting to watch!
Thanks a lot Jeff, I saw the [CHRON] in the title and got all excited about an article. I guess it's back to studying.
Ain't no soporific like baseball or golf on the TV. That's the only thing good about this part of the year: catching up on sleep.
